Flexplate 250CI

Hi,

I've just purchased a '72 250 D2DE block and C8DE(M) head. First of all, I don't think the head is ever be removed 'cause it's an original metal gasket. But a C8 head on a 72 engine is weird...is it possible?
Ok, my question (2the  )
This 250 is original a 3 speed manual, but I want to convert to a C4. I've got a C4 for a six and one for an 8. Witch one is the best to use(performance wise)? I can change the bellhousings. Can I bolt-on a 289 flexplate and torque-converter or do I need a flexplate and torq-conv. specially for a 250 inline six?

Tnx in advance.

The 250 has the same transmission pattern as the V8. As for transmissions, the 8cyl model is supposed to contain more clutch plates but other than that they are much the same.

The flexplate from an 8 will bolt up, but the balance will be wrong. There is an imbalance weight which will need to be removed and the flexplate checked for zero imbalance. The flexplate size needs to match the bellhousing and block plate. Most small block C4's use a 157tooth flexplate.

The torque converter from the 8 can be used as is with the 157 tooth flexplate.

I suggest double checking the casting number on your head. You could / should have a "C9" casting versus a C8 casting.

A new flex plate is only ~ 50 bux at a the parts store . Thats prolly cheaper that paying a machine shop to rebalance an old one .

Tnx for the quick answers. I gonna buy a new one.
Has someone a suggestion witch store?
I live in Belgium so it has to be shipped.

Tnx in advance.

Probably Summit Racing.

I believe this is the right part (can someone please confirm for me?) - it's listprice is about USD$90. Maybe consider new bolts at the same time.

Regards, Adam.

On my stock C4 on my 200 is the ring gear welded on the torque-converter. is this different with the 250?

When I buy this Summit TCI flexplate i need a torque-converter without a ringgear right?

Thanx in advance.

I think this is the flexplate you need http://store.summitracing.com/partdetai ... wordSearch

Its just like a SBF so it don`t have the torque converter welded onto the ring gear .

TCI makes great flexplates , I had to buy one for my 302 swap a while back.

Joost, you are correct about the torque converter being different, too.

The 250 bellhousing is identical to a V-8 piece, but the torque converter is usually different for a six (different stall speed). The V-8 torque converter will work, though.

Also a V-8 starter (easy to find) can be used. Your existing one from the 200 may work, check and see.
