My 200 cid will not start, you turn the key and the starter spins, but never touches the engine - replaced the starter, same thing. The fly wheel looks good (no broken teeth, etc.) but if it is warped or something... what do I do? I need help. The fly wheel is something I have no idea about.

Sounds like the starter bendix is not engaging. That could happen on a new one if it were improperly assembled. Not likely the flywheel warped enough to not engage the starter.

Pull the starter and try hooking jumper cables to it. You should see the gera drive move out. If it simply spins and the gear does not move out, get another starter or open that one up to see if the bendix is still engaged to the lever.

The bendix drive does drive out the gear and the amps are in range (also the solenoid, wires, and grounds are all new).

If that is the case, how do I go about replacing the fly wheel, and do you have an estimate on what it would take (skill and time wise) and how much it would cost?

I appreciate it a lot!

This may be a stupid question...but what size is your flywheel??? and what was the match for the starter? did you compare both the old and new starters?

You won't have too many choices of flywheel size with a 200.

It might be possible that the wrong starter will not engage. The auto starter has a slightly longer snout.

If it is the flywheel, you will have to pull the transmission to get to the flywheel. You'll need at least as much skill, expertise, and toolage as it takes to do a transmission replacement.

The parts books that I looked at said that for the 65 mustang, the manual and automatic used the same starter (only for the 65) which is the 3131.

(The autozone and advanced computers listed a 3135, but that is the wrong bolt pattern, but then there books list a 3131 which is the right bolt pattern, but still isn't working!). I am at a loss... The bendix drives out the gear, the amps are right, the solenoid is new, and the flywheel looks like it's in mint condition!

ANY other ideas (any at all!?!)
