An FMX from an 197I XY GT...

A BW 35 for a six....

Nope, they don't swap without an adaptor...

The FMX is a really tough rework of the ancient Cruise-o-matic auto found behind FE block V8's in 1957. Heavy, it is fully cast iron with just an alloy extension housing, and weighs 165 pounds all up. It runs a 164 tooth flywheel, the stock 351C starter, and it was the fastest kicdown auto around for many years. Found on all auto GT351's, it doesn't have anywhere near the parts back-up of the C4 (which we in Oz speak call the C7, C8, C9, or the split bell C10). The last came out in the last 5.8's in 1982, and most 4.9's ran C10's, which are a C4 derivative.

The sandwhich plate is the same as the other small block Fords, weather Windsor or Cleveland. The bolt pattersn are the same. The linkages vary, but are similar to the C4. I think the FMX in Oz was soley a T-bar, but I could be wrong on that.

The FMX was officially replaced by the less strong in stock form AOD in October 1979 in the US. Aussies never got it. We never got the lock-up clutch C5 either.
