Guys in America, don't navel gaze, just look at Jack's original 250 US engine in the Tech section. There is great stuff avaialble for it. It fits the original domestic block, the T5 and AOD gearboxes bolt right on, the parts are all available ex-US, and the thing is so darn tough!
The US 250 is hampered only by the log. The best trick would be to cut it off and fit up the AMC EFI system.
Once done, it would always cost more than doing a 250 X-flow import. The most cost effective mod is the triple carb Offy or Clifford adaptors, and some Weber carbs. It's as American as apple pie, and it wakes up the old six. For nostelgia and rootes to geniune Hot Rod Hop-Ups, its a winner. I'd say its cheaper than an imported 250 x-flow, too.
As for the Jeep 4.0, what can be said? It's a great engine!. And the 258 crank can be fitted to it to make a great stroker. Clifford have done engines up to 291 cubes. Heck, almost a 300 six! There is not one common AMC/Jeep componet, but the Aussie Hemi I6 topography and architecture is very similar. The OZ Chrysler Hemi has canted polyspheric valves, and its not really a Hemi like a 426 is a hemi. It's a Semi Hemi, you may say!
In New Zealand, a few uniformed automotive writers have said the Jeep 4.0 is just a reworked Chrylser Hemi 245. It's nothing of the sort, but its close!.
Whatever, you've got no excuse. The best sixes are right there at your doorstep!
