OK...I got the lil 5200 jetted up, float level set, etc..... no more bogging down. Good response off idle, good idle, good part throttle performance, but any time I go wide open throttle while driving, it starts to die and miss until i back out for a lil while, then it picks up, but wont run at highway speeds or full throttle accelleration without seeming to run out of gas. I've replaced the fuel pump, ran it without the gas cap, blown through the vent line and fuel line with compressed air. Same results? I haven't had a fuel pressure gauge on it yet.
Any ideas? This really seems fuel related, any other ideas?
Thanks guys,
Brad

Brad,
Is your ignition able to keep up at WOT? Points (check gap or if pitted) or Electronic? Check your plugs after a run at WOT, lean or rich? If everything checks, it sure does sound like your float level and/or clogged filter. Yeah, I thought I had the float level set correctly till it wouldn't get over 60mph on the highway...but the gas mileage was great though.

ps. just got finished working on a buddy's bronco not running, if at all...his empty gas tank ended up being the culpret.

Howdy Brad:

Another possibility is that the eccentric on the cam that drives the fuel pump may be worn to the point that it can only pump enough gas cold or at an idle. This happened to me on a '72 Comet with a 250. Only 88,000 miles too. My solution was to add an electric fuel pump.

An new cam and gear will also fix it.

I'd check for fuel pressure next, both cold and hot.

Good luck.

float drop adjustment. if too high will cause problems like this.Needle can not get off seat far enough to pass sufficant fuel for high load. Bowl goes dry backing off lets it refill.
