Fuel pump always leaking oil

I'm glad someone posted something about Fuel Pumps.
I have installed three on my car , Different motors and different models of fuel pumps. but all are the older rebuildable style.
Well it never fails they all leak oil not gas.

Am I missing something? I never had this issue on any other motor.

since the pump is over the drain plug I thought this was my problem but after washing and cruising I see its been the pumps all this time.

There is NO oil in the fuel pump.. If its leaking oil then it has to be the gasket between the block and the pump. You might try some RTV Blue on a new gasket Both sides and see how it goes..

I'm trying to pinpoint where the oil is leaking from but it looks like its coming from around the Difram plate...but its hard to tell .... the vaccum assist pump I had did the same.

I have put a new gasket on loaded the bolts with RTV blue and such...just one of those weird deals I guess...

I can try a later modle pump like the Mavericks came with or a Electric if it pisses me off too much.

Can you see exactly where it's leaking? Two likely places, the block-2-pump gasket and the leak/weep hole (which some pumps don't have).

The gasket only seals between the pump housing and the block, there's nothing to keep oil from getting to the backside of the diaphragm, it usually doesn't hurt anything. It *should* run back into the block, but sometimes excessive blow-by will push it out a fuel pump weep hole.

Double-check your PCV, make sure it's pulling some vacuum in the crankcase - with the engine idling it should try and suck the palm of your hand into the oil fill neck.

I fought a long battle with this, could never get a good seal. Ended up going with the 70's style pump like you mentioned and all's been well since.

ive been running the stock replacment on my '76 from napa now for almost 8,000 miles with no prob.
