Hey everyone.
I recently acquired a 63 ford falcon with 84,000 original miles in outstanding shape. It ran pretty well when I got it, it had been in storage for 14 years. But anyways I put new spark plugs in and it ran exactly the same. Then I changed the oil with 10w-30 and used a ph8a filter from fram. Also at this time I knew that the tranny leaked (fordomatic 2 speed auto) so I pulled the dipstick. There was a rubber looking piece stuck in the hole but I figured it would stay there. I put a funnel in the hole and put about 1/4-1/2 quart of Type FA transmission fluid in. But when I pulled out the funnel the rubber piece was gone. When I started the engine I got a incredible knock the increase with slower engine speeds. I'm not sure if it's the engine or something in the transmission as it gets worse when in gear. Could I have overfilled the transmission? The oil is at the correct level. The engine vibrates terribly and hard enough that it is felt through the car and the exhaust moves around a lot. The noise comes from the rear of the engine bay. Could it be a valve, lifter or something? I don't want this engine to be ruined. Please help me!
