Generator modification, is this safe?

So I purchased a used generator for my I6 falcon since mine was MIA.

However it was for a V8 car so the generator would mount upside down (or right side up depending on your perspective).

As a result, the terminals on the housing would face towards the engine block and smack right into it; causing a short and a lack of movement for tension purposes. It wouldn't even reach the adjusting bracket.

So I took the generator apart and noticed I could rotate the housing around the front and back mounting ends/covers. However, there's a little slot in the generator housing to line up a key that's on each of the end covers to ensure they face eachother and don't rotate.

I ended up making a new slot for each cover on the opposite ends of the housing and rotated the brackets/cover to the other side, now it looks like the original l6 generator. The terminals now face the outside instead of smacking into the block, essentially having turned the generator upside down.

It doesn't seem like the outside housing or sides have anything to do with the guts, that rotate (IE the armature is rotating regardless of the position of the outside case).

Just double checking, is this okay to do?

It should work the same and be fine the position of the case clocking dose not matter.
