I have the head, main studs and rod bolts from FSPP. What are the steps and specs for them? Thanks!
Hi Dan, Glad to see you back here.
I used "general" guidelines for mine:
http://www.centuryperformance.com/torquerec.asp
I used motor oil for the threads and took the head studs in 5 - lb. steps starting at 30 and ending up at 75 foot pounds. Its easy with a good click type torque wrench.
Composition gaskets need time to "settle".
Leave the valve cover off so you can come back the next day and - - break each nut loose and torque it back to whatever torque you choose. (not in multiple steps, just break one at a time loose and re-torque) You will find that the whole gasket has crushed a little over night.
Published specs are:
ROD BEARING CAP TORQUE 21-26 FOOT POUNDS (FINAL TORQUE)
(I went to 30 on all the stock bolts)
MAIN BEARING CAP TORQUE 60-70 FOOT POUNDS (FINAL TORQUE)
HEAD BOLT TORQUE 70-75 FOOT POUNDS (FINAL TORQUE)
TORQUE SEQUENCE
------------------
| 14 10 6 2 3 7 11 |
| 13 9 5 1 4 8 12 |
------------------
FINAL TORQUE MUST BE REACHED IN 3 EQUAL STEPS
RECHECK FINAL TORQUE IN SEQUENCE
One last thing - the very front pass side head stud will thread down far enough into the block that it will hit the water pump impeller !! Ask me how I know -
Keep us posted.....
