Hard start after sitting a while.

Hey, me again, my 200 after sitting all night or most of the day it seems like the carb drains out and i gotta crank and crank and then it starts to "skip". I stop, pump a few times try again and it starts up alright, only after it sits a while. Any ideas why?? I tried pouring a little bit of gas down the carb before trying and it will catch right away and keep running. It started doing this a while ago,it used to start a lot easier than this. Any thoughts would be great.

Thanks, Lee

There could be a few different causes depending on the type carb you have and it's condition. If you have the Holley 1904 carb than it could be that the float bowl gasket has dried up or cracked allowing the fuel to leak out as it sits. On some carbs that have had set around unused for long time water can cause deterioration and porosity that lets the fuel leak out. Also In hot weather the fuel can simply evaporate too. Good luck

I had that problem, the ethinol in the gas will boil at very low temps causing the fuel to vaporize and the bowl goes dry. I installed an electric fuel pump and the problem went away. When starting after sitting for awhile, I just turn on the key, a wait a second or two to let the pump fill the carb and she fires right up without any stalling.

modern twist on ye ol vapor lock?

Update: my carb has an automatic choke with a heat tube going down to the header, anyway the choke spring must have got a bit fatigued or something, so i loosened it give it a little turn. Came out a good full 24hrs later, two gas pumps and voila, started like it was hot already. Appreciate the tips.

Thanks, Lee
