hard to start

in the afternoons of evenings my car starts up fine, but in the morning it is hard to start. I know that the choke is working cause I see it at the angle it is at, and I know I have gas but no matter how I look at it when I start her up she doesnt want to start in the morning either with too much gas or none at all. could points be the cause of this, cause also when it gets hot the car tends to get a bit crappy on me like little chugs.

When was the last time you changed spark plug wires?
Just wild guess though.

A couple of things come to mind.
1) Check and make sure the excelerator pump is working. Look in the carb and move the linkage and see if there is a good squart of gas down the carb. A lot of motor depend on that squart of gas to get started. just the cranking of the motor won't pull in enough gas to start a cold motor.
2) Make sure the choke is working properly.... When the motor is COLD pump the gas once, then see if the choke has closed all the way. It should almost completly block off the opening.
3) I would also check the timming and the vacuum advance. be sure it is hooked up right... You may have one of the vacuum lines hooked up wrong.. Just a guess..

also make sure that the carb isn't seeping all the gas in the bowl out overnight. I have a chevy that did this all the time. You can't even see where it has leaked but the bowl dries up after 12 hrs or so and it is hard to get it filled back up on a mech. fuel pump--made it very hard to start. Didn't feel like pulling the carb off for a rebuild(van-thus a real pain) so just put a cheap elect fuel pump on it. Now i just let the pump fill up the bowl before hitting the starter--problem is gone.
Sometimes it's just learning the engine's wishes..some like 3 pumps of the pedal before cranking some 1 -but it takes at least 1 to activate choke.
