This may be an old question, but I'm looking for a new carb for my 66 200 CID. I want to stay with the 1 barrel design. I came across Pony Carbs, since FSPP doesn't sell them and was wondering if anyone has any input on them or who would be better.

i have heard a lot of good things about Pony Carbs...that they fix the problems with the orginal carbs...

they are expensive though...but worth it. I wish I could afford one...

someday!

Was running a replacement 1100 from them for three years before my upgrades. Great product, service and instructions. Well worth the money.

Count me as the odd man out here...... they SUCK!

Their carb bogged off the line, a problem they claimed to have fixed. The chock coil was in backwards. Plus a couple of other problmes. Called them about 10 times to fix the problem. All they told me was my dizzy was junk, the balancer had moved, my vac gauge was incorrect, blah-blah-blah.... bascially that everything ELSE was wrong but their carb. Asked them for specific settings like Accel pump. They said that there was no "measurement", only that it worked when you pushed in the gas. Funny.... but the FoMoCo manual has a measurement spec. So I rebuilt my DOPZ replacement carb and all my drivability problems went away.

Bottom line, if you by something "mail order", you are stuck with it. Pony does NOT stand behind their product. Yous pays yer money and yous takes yer chances.

A guy from Pony Carbs came to one of the Falcon Club (Keystone Chapter) regional meets a few years back (I think it was '97?) and gave a very good lecture/tutorial on carburation and ignition timing. The guy had just about every club member either nodding approvingly or hanging on his every word. I don't know anything about their products, but the knowledge is definitely there. 8)

And he didn't try to sell us anything! 8)

I sending off about three 1 bbl carbs to them. They were going to pick the best out of the three to rebuild and asked if I'd be interested in selling the others.
Hell man sounds good...ZZ

I purchased a used carburetor from a private individual, who had purchased a carburetor from pony carburetors. I found their parts service to be very good, such as gaskets or different jet sizes.
When i called up for some technical advice concerning a stall condition on a 1100 carb, they said since the carb was used they had no idea of the problem.I got a typical new york response.
Because i have extensive knowledge with carburetors of that era, it sounded like a low float level which was causing the stalling when pulling into a driveway or over a speed bump. I fixed the problem by raising the float level 1/16 inch higher. than than specs.you be the judge their carbs are the best around, especially for a larger venturi 1100 which they use a 223 six venturi & raise the cfm to 215.  william

I have no beef at all with Pony. In fact, they were very helpful to me when I had a choke problem --- like it fell out of the cup when I over-loosened the cap while the carb was screwed to the intake. They put me through to the boss, John Enyart twice and he was very knowledgeable about the 1bbl. Talked me through a diagram of the correct direction for the spring and told me to save my money until they got the new edition of their Ford carb guide.
On the other hand, he also has fairly narrow limits of tolerance for non-stock applications or mods. And don't mod his carbs. Skip even talking about the Carter. They do strictly 1100s. I love mine and it works great. No bog, no stall, worked great out of the box. Find an old core and save yourself a C note on a remanufactured one.
They might be getting a little less uptight now that they are in New Mexico. I asked the tech guy if he liked his work. "Are you kidding??? This is the best job in the world: --- Getting paid to talk about cars all day!!!"

I've never dealt with the company directly, but I did run a Pony Carb 1100 for a while that I picked up used from another 200 owner. Ran as near to perfect as you can expect from an 1100. Was a great carb.

I got a carb from Pony too which I didn't have very good luck with... It was a 4300 ( Autolite 4v, original style carb for my 302 in my 68 ) tho, not a 1100... A friend of mine baught it for me for exchange for some work on his car.. back then it was in the $400 range, plus a $100-150 core(this was back in 1996)... I had the lame a$$ idea back then that I would get an original carb (since I still had to smog the car then) rather than a Carter or a Holley, even tho the 4300 was twice as much money...

Needless to say, the carb didn't work all that great, it had a stumble in it when you gave it a little more throttle when steadily crusing (like mildly accelerating from 40 to 50mph), and every once in a while it wouldn't idle very well when it was restarted... Supposedly they fix the original faults of the carbs, but I think my original carb worked better than theirs... Not to mention they asked specifically what engine and everything the carb was being used for...So in theory it should have worked perfectly! Back then my engine was stone stock except for the Ignitor...

I put another Holley I had on it (600 vac sec), and it runs just fine.. problems solved....

AND I put that Pony 4300 on another friends car w/ a 289 because he needed a decent carb until he could afford one... and guess what... it did the SAME things it did on my car...

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but that's just my personal experience...

Pony Carbs in my mind is one of the best companys out there. They stand by there produt while putting the customer first. I ordered 2 of the carter Yfs from them, and its the best decision i think i made on this restoration. I am sure you'll be happy with them.
