Head options

I'm am working on getting more power out of my 1967 220ci 6. So far I e put in a pert robin ignition kit and a dual exhaust header. I was going to put on a Webber car with a converter but I'm waiting until I decide what to do about a new head/intake. I'd like to do a cam, bore the engine over 30 and put a new head on it. The aluminum heads are too expensive for me and I am wondering what my options are for heads out of a 250 or for doing work to the head that I already have? Is there much that can be done to improve the one that I have and then possibly have the intake milled so that it takes a 2 barrel carb or should I just be looking to get a head off of a 250 block. If I do a head off of a 250 what years will work and what will need to be done to it to make it work? Thanks for any advice.

The 250 and the 200 share the same head.
You could just mill the head you have for a 2bbl.

Have you done a compression test?
That might help determine if the block needs any work.

The only time you should bore an engine is when the cylinders are worn and tapered. You're not going to notice any power difference with your 2 extra cubic inches from boring .030. All you'll end up doing is reducing the number of rebuilds left in the block. So if it needs to be bored then obviously have it done but otherwise you're just screwing yourself. As previously stated, the 200 and 250 heads are the same but they did change throughout the years. Your best bet would be to get a '78 or later head and have it milled to keep your compression up on your earlier block. Bumping up the compression would also help you make a little more power. Have it machined for a 2bbl and throw in a mild cam an you should have a decent increase in power.

Hi, get the Ford Falcon Performance Handbook by Scheldahl. All the small six heads are compared. There are many performance upgrades for the whole package in this great book. After learning about heads, cams, and carbs you should be able to come up with a plan. Good luck

I'd just repeat the others good advice (go w/their suggestions). It is a system so an addition here or there is often a wash. My suggestion (as is another's)

(Do Not buy anything there as the founder just passed away & site's purchase options are disfunctional). These two have an incredable array of info for ur needs. After a lill study (at least thats what I needed, these motor R a lill different) I think folks here can finish up any issues you may have (there's international experts in all aspects here!) see other forums on this site.
