Head Question #999,999

Even though I have a couple spare small log heads, I went by the local pic-a-part today to see if I could find one of the larger log heads for a possible direct mount of a 2bbl. Found several early 80's that I think were 200s, but the area in front of the intake looked nothing like I've seen on this site. It looked like a cast piece that had something that looked like diaphram mounted to it and the whole assembly bolted on to the side of the log and appeared to be connected to what I think were air injector tubes. The only one I found that did not have that was on a '76 Fairmont. Got any idea of what I was looking at and would a head from a '76 be a possible candidate for a 2bbl conversion

Howdy Back:

Yes, the early '80s ar good candidates for adapting a two barrel carb to. They have all the good, latest stuff. They also have a plethora of junk attached to them that must be removed. It is all EPA bandaides to sanitize them. It can all be safely remove, which you will need to do to rebuild and to modify.

You might want to grab the late model valve cover for it's linkage attachment bracket on the driver's side. The cable linkage from the pedal to the carb will also be useful.

A '75 or D5XX casting may not have the larger 1.75" intake valves. I'd hold out for a D7XX or later.

Hope that helps you.

Thanks for helping out with needed info again. Just reread the section in your handbook on "Recomended Head"(pg 7). Since I had it readily availible, I did pull the bracket and the accelerator pedal and cable from one that seemed to be in excellent shape. Not sure how I'll configure it with the cast valve cover, but that's a project for a later time

check those heads for cracks, I went thru 2 used 1's, b4 I found 1 good 1, for $35 at the a U pull it. cracked heads were $125 each, even tho I got them returned.
