If you look on the log, it should give you a parts number that starts with something like C4, or D6, or E2.

C= 60s
D= 70s
E= 80s

so C4=64
C5=65

so on and so forth.

Yeah I suppose I should have been a bit more detailed. It is not where I can examine it first, and the seller has been a bit stubborn about helping, but the price is good. I am just trying to decide if I shoudl spend the money on it or forget about it and look for another one, maybe closer to me.

It looks like the big hole, big log, flattish top - late '70s?

Hope the price falls your way.

The price is good, $45 including 3 angle vavle job and new seals, plus it has been tanked and magnafluxed so it seems like a good deal, but you know how that can be.

Howdy Andrew and All:

The casting code is under the linkage plate.

It the price includes a QUALITY valve job along with new valve stem seals it is a good buy. We're now paying $50.00 for builder heads from the late 70's and on, which I think this head is.

Is shipping another $$$$ question?

Adios, David

I'm going to guess a 1975 vintage head....The 78-83 heads all (or most..never say all! :wink: ) were set up for an EGR valve on the side and the port for the vacuum was all the way to the front of the log.

Doug

And the winner is Doug it is a D5 head. Now the big question, should I just hang out and wait for a D8 head, or go ahead and grab this one, or option B wait until the aluminum head is out and pick up an already modified (direct mount) head from somebody going aluminum. The reason I ask is that it is unlikely that I will have the $$ for an aluminum head in the near future.

Andrew,

I think there will be an abundance of modified cast iron heads available cheap in the near future. Unless you need it now hold out and get someones modified head.

Bob

Thanks Bob!

That's what I was thinking, I just really want to dump the 170 head I have on my 200. Some previous owner kept what I assume is the original head that came with my car, but upgraded/replaced the 170 with a 200 block.

Thanks!!

Does one know when the Alum head is coming out? Seems like a bunch of stalling..

It's not stalling.

In hindsight, some announcements were probably premature but the basic patterns are made, prototypes have been founded and the project now waits for final development of the intake manifolds (flow evaluation and then patterning/prototyping).

The specialised market that caters for such manufacturing can often be a little whimsical in approach to deadlines and demands. The benefit from using these type people, is not being beholden to large corporations, and keeping the labour content in first-world countries with a good grasp of acceptable production quality.

Hope this helps. It's the first ever (completely new) aftermarket head for these series motors and the most thoroughly designed.

Cheers, Adam.
