Which header would be the best fit for my 16-200 1983 Merc Zephyr?
times are tough so am looking for a LOW cost header. I plan on 2 inch exhaust and a flowmaster 50 series. Any suggestions on the header.

I've been wondering about that myself. It seems that only Clifford has headers that say they would specifically fit the Fairmont, as far as I know.

I think it's generally that the Fox bodies are not well serviced for headers.

My FSPP dual out should fit. But don't know of anyone that has tried them. If you want to check them out, and they don't fit, I'll refund your money.

Sorry to high jack your post for a second.
But I was just woundering how come one header for a I-6 cost as much if not more than a Pair of headers for a V-8.. It just don't make sence to me..
Tim

It's because there is more demand for the V-8 headers. They can be built in quanity and sold in quanity. Not many of us Ford Sixers at the moment but I think we are going to be growing in numbers.

I SEE. Its more supply and demand than what it cost to build  Not fare to the I-6ers if you ask me BUT thats just my openion..
Thanks +68coupe+

Go for it ZephyrJoe, I would but I am in Canada and can't afford the return, if necessary. :hmmm:

I think you miss the point regarding volume production.

If volume justifies, better fixturing and automatic assembly are options. Longer production runs permit amortization of a single setup over a longer production run.

Even stuff like header flanges- if you're building 250,000 flanges a year for a SBC, you can do it alot cheaper than 2000 I6 flanges.

Actual material cost of a header is a VERY small fraction of the cost of the product- its almost all tooling and labor.

I have no doubt that a SBC header labor and toolig cost per unit is much less than an I6.

Hey i saw a post here that someone was questioning the cost of Mikes Ford Six Parts headers. I recently purchased one and was absolutly without a doubt pleased. It was only $50 more than a new manifold for my combination. And i wouldn't compair these to cheap headers for a sbc or similar these are nice machine welded with big head flange headers. I have nothing to win or lose from saying this its just my 2 cents

Did you put it on a Fairmont?

I hope I wasn't miss under stood  I wasn't talking about Mikes Headers just the price of headers from Mike or anyone else.. The price is about as much as I paid for my Big Block Ford pair. Thats all I was saying. I was just thinking they should be cheaper (in cost) than that for a BB or even just a V8..
