header fits

There were Headers made for the 250- Hooker 6602's. The more common 144/170/200 Hooker 6601 dual out - long tube headers won't fit the 250 without modification. The headers hug the bell to clear the steering gear and with the larger VeeAte/250 sized bell, the 200 6601's interfere. MAny current single and dual out headers claim to fit both applications but the taller deck height AND low mount starter AND larger bell cause problem interference.

Hooker made the 6602's for mid 70's MAverick application. These are not easy to come by. Here's a comparison of the two.

The 6602's are on the 250 note the different 1/2/3 runners:

Amazing fit around the starter, thankfully later Mustang PMGR mini-starters work great.

Fitting the 6602's in an early car is a whole other ball of fun:

I purchased a used header off e-bay a couple years ago with the idea of making up a few sets. Not sure if its the 6601 or 6602? The plan was to shorten them up a little, so they don't hang so low, then make 50 sets out of stainless steel. I just need to save up the cash.... and get them made. The header I have now, for the high mount starters, will clear a low mount but they are really tight. If I could rebend the inside pipe for more clearance, I could have a few made up. Unfortunately I don't have anything to test fit them on.

The first batch of stainless headers had a slip joint, however I decided to try a ball joint on the second batch. So far I haven't had any feedback on the ball joints, but they should allow a little more adjustment in the lower pipes. As such, they might fit the low mount starters? They'd definitely work with a mini starter. Ball joints also make it easier to R&R the headers. If anyone is willing to give it a try, I'd be willing to give them a deal on the header. They'd need to have two pipes made, one for themself and one for me. Then I could send it to the manufacturer and have some made up.
