Header or no header?

so the Fox 200ci '80 plus oe "football" ex. manifold with a 2 outlet collector bolted onto that 4 inch outlet pictured can give a near 20% hp increase (20 hp)? Seems it will fit on all the "sm 6s".

Yes, it has
low restriction,
cast iron heat retention and is cheap
and you can fit it
and split it into dual out.

The key is that Jaguar XK, Aston Martin DB and F150 4.9 efi style split branch 1,23 and 4,5,6 cast iron systems can make more power and torque than long branch headers. Proven time and time again with racing I6's, old cast iron split headers with reduced volume allows a better mid range and doesn't hurt wide open throttle power. Old timers in 186 and 202 Holden triple carb sixes used to just add a port divider, and it would be worth 10 hp at the flywheel on 235 flywheel hp combinations. To get 4% over the elready stock twin branch set up is something.

I'm not knocking glorius long branch headers, they have there place and are also an easy fit, and sound magic. The cast iron dual out is mellow an quiet.

do long tube headers have starter clearance issues? I was hoping the CI header was a direct match so now I don't know which headers fit (aside from hooker). Still like the idea of ordering the impostor exhaust from CI, but will the system match up to other headers

what we call shorties then have better tq and HP you're saying, than what we call long tube headers for these sm/big six engines...
I wuz thinkin shorties were for tq and long tube for HP in any application. thanks.

"...will the system match up to other headers..."
yeah, make sure you give not only which engine U have but vehicle yr/model when ordering. They don't always fit cross platforms (hi/low starter, ster. linkage differences, etc). Lotta the stang stuff dont fit a bronk & visa versa.

yep, 4got bout tranny, they get in the way sometimes too - but - that head/block combo shouldn't make a difference on exhaust mods, I wouldn't think. Did the transmission MODEL come in that yr Maverick (& w/that motor, what is it 3.3/200?)?
