HEADERS HEADERS HEADERS

Whats up all...small time tuner here trying to unbottle my 67 3.3 L, and I had a question for anyone who is knowledgeable...I was looking at the Long tube header set from Classic inlines, does anyone have any other suggestions for more power etc? and i was also thinking about running them with no pipes, straight headers...do yall think that i would have enough backpressure to run this system on a street car? i have done a petronix conversion, recent head gasket and am running with a T5...anyone have any suggestions otherwise? i am also trying to do a fuel injection set up, but it appears to be kinda pointless if there is only a single injector set up that i can run...
Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks guys!!!

Those would probably be the best headers for our engine.

Thought about a cam?

That exhaust would be way too loud, in my eyes.. (and ears)

You could run 6 individual throttle bodies with 6 individual injectors, but we're talking $$$

well i am hoping it would be extremely loud...that was the whole idea...i just dont want my performance to suffer due to a lack of back pressure...six throttle bodies and six injectors is insane though i would have to be crazy...
The main thing is i dont want to convert it to a single outlet, that would take awayu as much as i gained....and doing a complete exhaust starts getting kinda expensive...got any brilliant ideas? im open to suggestions...a Cam huh? that does sound like a fun project...i need to do a complete tear down sooner than later anyways...anyone in the Southern CA san Luis area want to help :D :) lol

I believe that Mike (AZCoupe) at Classic Inlines is going to start carrying the Extrudabody line of throttle bodies & fuel injection parts. They have a Datsun Z car with 6 individual tb's & it was a pretty sweet set up. You can check them out @http://www.extrudabody.com I have no affiliation with them, just thought that they had interesting products. I am going to attempt a FI conversion on a 200 now that I have my OZ head & can start on a custom intake. Good luck!

It won't. Ever. This myth seems to crop up a lot, though.

A 2.75" single exhaust flows 95% of what dual 2" pipes do (according to A=πr^2), so that would be a way to go about it. Bort62 will be on here later to tell you this, I'm sure.

you shouldnt lose anything with a single out, except sound. open headers will be too loud for a car driven on the street. glass packs will be really loud, but still driveable (or at least an H pipe, my friend ran with just an H pipe and gutted cats. it was about right). i think open headers will get old after a few days.

will this be a daily driver?

you could always drill holes in each runner and weld a bung in or just tap it. i want to see that done.

Right now im running a set of hooker headers to flowmaster 40's and its loud as hell, yet it sounds great...though something different would be nice to see every once in a while...

on my olds i run engoug pipe to get the headers out from under the doors. sounds great, even a mile away

headers alone your probably not going to see much performance tho. definatly look into a cam, ignigtion and maybe a 2bbl carb swap.

Running open headers on a clapped out old 6 cyl mustang = trailer trash.

A single exhaust gives you all the performance of a dual exhaust at half the price and weight. That = intelligent.

Get the 6 into 1 header, and run it through a single glasspack and out in front of the passenger wheel if you want to keep it cheap. It will be plenty loud.

Backpressure is a myth.

Adding a header w/o intake and cam upgrades isn't going to do much performance wise, either.

Any other questions? I love SLO.

I ran open dual headers for 2 days while I waited to take it to the muffler shop. Loud as all hell and really annoying. On a side note...scared the every beloving shit out of a ricer who decided to rev his engine beside me at a traffic light.

Manik, you must be watching too much Pinks! Open headers are so unbelievably loud, not only would you be totally sick of it within minutes, not days, but every cop within two miles wold be on your A$$ within those same minutes. Plus, I can tell you from experience that a totally stock turd head 200 with open headers is just loud, not fast, and loud and slow is plain embarrassing.

On the topic of cams, having had this engine for six years now and done headers, exhaust, two-barrel carb, electronic ignition, and extensive headwork I can assure you you will want a hot cam. Especially since you have that nice T-5. Now, open headers, high compression and a hot cam would sound pretty wicked  ...for a day or two, at least

I had an "adventure" where a pothole ripped the clamped-on exhaust pipe away from the downpipe...within 3 minutes of running with 2 feet of exhaust pipe I had a pounding headache that did not stop. This was running 30 mph, trying to coast everywhere. I stopped by a friend's house and borrowed some earplugs to get home, and it was still too loud even with those in.

I have reviewed all of your comments and have agreed i didnt know what i was thinking about running no exhaust system lol super trashy but anyways i will be looking into a cam, i also need to do an overhaul because as was suggested before, a cam would really kick ass in this thing with an exhaust and efi and t5.....i love my car...so many options!!!thanks for all the help yall!!!

If you still think you need back pressure for power... stick a cork in the exhaust, it'l give you all the back pressure you want
