I have found a set of headers made by Scott Drake..Anyone familiar with them?..Supposed to fit all 6L cars with 170-250 cubes, would like to know fit compared to other brands...They are nickel plated but don't exspect it to last....Thanks. Seb.

I also would like to buy new header and actually was thinking about

jahearne - is this header really so bad ?

What is the better choice single or dual outlet versions? One more question does it fit to 200 and 250 head. I would like to change my 200 to 250 in the future without changing header.

I'm not trying to stir things up, just to promote my own products, but thought I'd give you the straight scoop on these.

A company in LA, which sells to almost all the suppliers, produces this header. Regardless which company you choose to purchase a header from, most all will carry this header, just with different pricing. When I first started selling headers, they contacted me and I bought ten sets. However, I decided not to continue selling them, as I prefer the more expensive Pacemaker and Pacesetter headers. Both the Pacemaker and Pacesetter headers (our FSPP headers are produced by Pacesetter) are fully welded inside and out.

The primary reason I don’t sell these, is due to the welding. They are welded on the inside only, and simply spot-welded on the outside. If the header warps and you mill it in an attempt to straighten it out, you’ll destroy the welds and the overall strength, as well as create pin holes. Some of the headers I recieved already had pin holes, which had to be repaired before I could sell them. Also note, most header leaks are due to three things, poor welding, warpage, and/or improper installation.

They do fit all 200ci applications, and they make versions for the 250 with the low starter. However, these headers also have poor starter clearance (the other reason I don’t sell them). I think they revamped the design, which helped, but I think you still have to remove the header to replace or work on the starter. But I could be wrong.

I’m not saying this is a bad product, just that you need to know what your buying. If you purchase one, and it leaks due to pins holes, the company you purchased it from should replace it or pay for the repair. If it warps, they may or may not replace it. Best bet is to check with the supplier and verify what their warranty covers (especially shipping cost), and what it doesn't. Most good companies will stand behind their products, but its best to check it out before you buy.

Not so bad, I'm using one, but I had to have it welded. It's just like Mike said in the previous post.

Thanks for your advice. I will buy the better one that you mantioned it, but what about single or dual outlet versions which one is better for 200ci (in the future 250ci) ?

I can't remember off the top of my head, but there has been discussion on the topic. I tried a quick search and did not come up with anything. Sorry

it depends what your future plans are for the motor if your just gonna do a mild build up i would say all you need is a single out but if your gonna go wild with the build up id go with a dual out

With those single out headers from LA, you don't even get what you pay for. $240 plus another sixty bucks to weld it; it's not worth it.

yea for a little more than that you can get the Pacemaker headers from Classic Inlines and you would have the added benefit of the long tubes or for a little less you could have the FSPP headers from Classic Inlines

I would go with the dual outs. This way you will have a true split header and can run true dual exhaust. It will sound better too. When mine is idling you can't even tell it is a six. Sounds like a V-8.

I decide to buy dual outlet from FSPP. I think it will be better for the future. It's time to collect money for it 8)

Gene, did you have interference with your starter (250 low mount, right?)? Did you have to run a ministarter or 3.8 V6 starter to clear? Just to clarify, do you have the pacemaker or pacesetter dual out header? Thanks, I want to order this week!

Nevermind... just saw your sig in another post and your ministarter thread. Where and how much $ for the Hookers if you don't mind me asking? Does anyone know of any headers that will clear for 250 stock low starter? Thanks!

Unfortunately, Hooker discontinued the header for the 250 with the low mount starter several years back. :( I was lucky enough to find a used header from another forum member that fits this application. I'm not sure if you will be able to find a set of long tube headers for the low mount starter application, but check with AZcoupe(Mike) of FSP and see if he has run across any. I know he had plans to get some made but don't think he has had to time to get to this yet. Good luck on your search. Probably your best bet is to search for a used set.

Is this a company in Los Angeles or Louisiana? If Los Angeles, can you tell me the name of the company. While I would definitely prefer to purchase from you Mike (Classic Inlines) I need to do this very soon and I think it will be a bit more time until you will be able to offer your product. Since Los Angeles is close to me, I figure I can pester the folks on a regular basis if I dont get what I need. Thanks.

They only sell wholesale, and with a minimum purchase of 50 headers.

That's the header I installed on my Mav with a 250. The install was easy, the only problem I see with the header was the collector flange hit the bellhousing. After I reroute the water lines from the pump outlet, I'll reinstall my AC compressor.
