ok I have the 1972 head ordered the Comp 252 and I'm going to do the valves this weekend.

What are you guys doing for a little heavier spring in these engines?

I used chevy style valves in the 4's and 8 cylanders what about 6's?

Frank, look at mikes website. www.fordsixparts.com & scrap the comp cam.
Take a look at his cams & valve springs. these products will give you more choices & power. Take a look. My personal opinon is to go with FSPP. William

Howdy Frank:

Stock springs in good shape and shimmed .030" will be more than enough for the Comp cam you intend to use and your intended uses. If you back cut the intakes that will lighten the valves some requiring even less spring tension to control the valves. You could also try to find a set of lighter, one piece retainers from an early 221 or 260 V8 with the 5/16" valve stems, for a little less weight and a little more seal clearance.

The 1966 1/2 to '68 1/2 289/302 springs are the same dimensions as the 200/250 sixes and have a little more pressure. NAPA Part # 212-1165

All are single springs so a direct replacement.

I'm just making a driver, but I like the results of what we use to call Z28 springs on the other engine I have built...
The comp cam stays...its paid for.
My driver is a towing vehicle from time to time other wise I would have used a stock cam.
I pondering the port divider with my 63 manifold....keeping all the good stuff inside.

the 200 should be a step up from the power of the old 170 but I dont expect a monster just a strong Motor for my own purposes(Delivering shirts for my Business and taking the kids to school).

Don't scrap the COMP Cam...I love my 260H from them.

For springs, I just orderedthe matching springs from COMP.
