heater hoses

how do they run such as upper hose from heater core goes to which outlet/inlet..
I'm having prob getting some heat out of it.. water level is good when warmed up. right at cap lip in rad.. shows no sign of leaking or pukeing it out. I don't have a temp gage working yet so I don't know if its just not heating up (190 stat). I know its not over heating as I've been on the freeway and in town for a couple of month. I do know it fogs up alot so it may be the heater core leaking and or pluged maybe back flush it?
Thanks
Tim

Your heater core is probably plugged and/or has a leak. When it fogs up, that means you have hot water coming out someplace. If it doesn't get hot, you don't have any flow. If you have fog and no heat, you probably have a small leak at the point of restriction so some water is getting through but not enough to heat the compartment.
Pull the heater core and have it pressure testd and boiled out. You can get a new one and they are not all that expensive.

I forgot to add that when you take the heater box off, be very careful. It is held together with clips that need to be expanded before you pull them away. They clamp over a little bump on the lip and if you just pull them off, as I did, you will break the bump off because the plastic is very fragile after all these years. Pry one side up with a screwdriver or use some kind of very flat jawed pliers to first insert unter the side and spread before you pull.

What cores are the same as the 61 comet?? in case they don't have a listing for the comet. 64 1/2 -65 stang ?? or what. OH which way do the hoses run?? or which is the out from the pump??
thanks

I don't think it makes a difference. It's just a loop through a core. If you have a carb heater plate, that would be the send side. the unbroken loop would be the return. It's gotta be the same core as the Stang. Check with a radiator shop. They may even have some re-habs there. They just solder the leaks in place.

Yeah...have fun with the "Jesus" clips.

Unless you wish to drain your cooling system, I recommend getting some type of hose cut off clamps (luckily my work had them) and clamp off the hoses at the firewall.

Also, I found that by removing the glove box, access to the heater core was greatly increased as I could have one hand on top and another on the bottom while I removed the clips.

I just loop the lower heater hose back to the pump and the core drains out the engine room when you unhook the top hose. Then you can drive while the heater and core are apart.
