I was replacing my valve stem seals, on my 66 mustang 200 cubic inch engine (with the head on the car method) and the cheesie spring compressor that I got from Autozone tool rental/loaner program, slipped and damaged the retainer. (which is the cupped shapped washer on top of the valve spring) My local parts stores and several machine shops have been no help. Can I get these from Ford? Thanks Lowell

Howdy Back Lowell:

It's unlikely that your local Ford Dealer will carry parts for an engine that's been out of production for 20 years. If you get real lucky they may have a left over, called New, Old Stock (NOS).

Pirating one from a junk yard engine is the best bet.

The 4.0 V6 one piece retainers are the same size as the two pieced OEM style. Your FoMoCo dealer should have those, but you may have to buy a set of six. They are a little lighter than the two piece ones though.

Sorry to be a bearer of bad news.

Adios, David

Just responding to my own post, for this might help someone looking for Ford parts that have been discountinued. I found what I was looking for from a company called Green Sales Company, www.greensalescompany.com or 800-543-4959. They claim they stock 160,000 Ford parts 99% are NOS. Check them out. Lowell
