bought this 6 cyl engine, said it was a 200 with 250 head and came out of a 66 mustang, sure looks like a different head to me.

OB20 C9DE-6090-M, this is the number on the intake

15
C8DE casting numbers on the block
60 5-B

Any help would be appreciated. can email pictures, if needed

How would I find out the codes for a 250 6 anyway of using the casting numbers to do this.

Tim told you correctly on the numbers.

You've got the "good" '69 head. If you go to rebuild it, by putting 1.75 intake valves and hardened exhaust valve seats you'll have as good as a stock 200/250 head gets to be.

Since your block is a "C8" it has to be a 200. 250 blocks were first issued in 1969 (C9).

No, there is no way to tell by the casting numbers if an engine block is a 200 or a 250.

The EASY way you CAN tell the blocks apart is by the number of bolts holding the water pump on to the block. A 250 has four; a 200 has three.

As for the head, AS FAR AS WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIGURE, the is no difference between a given casting whether it is on a 200 or a 250. Your '69 - M suffix head could have been installed on either block oriiginally.

Make sure that you read the Swapping heads STICKY post.

i appreciate all the information, OK I've got the best head for a 200 6 , if i put in the 1.75 intake valves and the hardened seats, should I replace the exhaust valves and go bigger also.

OK thanks for all the replys, Ihave the block for sale if anyone wants it minus the head. Make an offer

From the previous posts, I didn't see mentioned, the C8XX Block casting code does not tell if it is a 250 - 200 or 170. Check the number of freeze plugs on the right side of the engine. Five freeze plugs = 200 or 250, Three freezees and you have a 170 C8XX 7main just like the one below:
