I have a '69 Mustang coupe with a 250 and all i have done with it is put a holley one barrel on there. She's faster than what she was before and she gets to higher rpms quicker. Sometimes, even when the car is warm and the choke is all the open, it dies when i put the pedal to the floor... i dont know why. also there is a small ticking noise at all rpms and temperatures. im guessing it could be the timing but are there any other possible reasons? and sometimes when i turn the car on, the starter gets stuck on and wont stop till either the battery dies or if i mess around with the ignition switch enough. should i replace the egnition switch or is the problem elsewhere? also i was looking around and i saw clifford performace had 2-1 headers for the 250 but is there anywhere where i could find 2-2 headers? thanks for your help.

www.fordsixparts.com is the right place for all of the performance stuff . As for the ticking I have the same problem and it sounds like it is coming from the dist but unlike you I don`t have points :?

the starter might be in the ignition switch...

as for it dying, does it die for a second, then catch up and rev naturally? if so, you might need to adjust your accelerator pump

as for the ticking... i can think of a few things it might be, does it increase in speed in proportion to the RPMs? does it stay at the same rate all the time?
have you tried to track down the ticking? does it sound like it's coming from one area, or just general all over noise

and one more question, is that the Washington the state, or DC?

nah when it dies, it dies. and for the ticking, it seems to come from the engine and its washington state

Ok were to start.

The ticking noise. valves out of adjustment.

Starter staying engaged. Bad Starter solenoid

The stalling when warm. Sounds like the old Hot Soak/vapor lock problem.

Fordsix Performance parts for all your update needs. :D

Ticking?

Water pump, Fan hitting something? Alternator? belts? does it sound external or internal?

Replace the starter and the ignition switch.

From Holley rebuild manual:

Engine hesitates on acceleration:

The accelerator pump system is defective.
A quick check of the pump system can be made as follows: With the engine off, remove the air cleaner, look into the carburetor bores and watch the pump stream while briskly opening the throttle valve. The pump should emit a full stream of fuel which strikes near the center of the venturi area.
There's dirt in the pump passages or in the pump jet.
The fuel level is too high or too low.
The air horn-to-float bowl gasket is leaking.
The carburetor is loose on the manifold.

my guess since this is a new carb is the fuel level being too low or high.

The ticking could also be an exhaust leak. Double check all you exhaust manifold bolts.

I won't repeat the given advice...looks good.
