if it's not the accel pump!! what else can we check??? usually he would pump it a couple of times and then it would crank over... now he is not getting any fuel to the carb when he pumps it when starting it cold???? is it even the carb???

when it is started with starting fluid or gas in the carb is starts great and then runs great, especially after it gets warm... then it starts easily of course....would that still be the fuel pump??? seems like if it was bad it wouldn't run at all.....the only problem is at cold start.. just wondering

Accelerator pump.

If it will run and idle after start then you are getting fuel to the bowl.

Good luck, Ric.

Yes accelator pump...
When starting the car cold it needs a rich mixture. so YOu pump the gas a couple of times to shoot some gas into it.... as well as set the choke.. is the choke working??
If you look down the carb and move the gas pedal you should see gas shoot down the carb..
Make sure your getting fuel. pull the line off at the carb and turn it over there should be a shot of gas come out. It thats good then I look for the accleator pump and make sure its working .. if thats good then check to see that the choke is setting..

that is what i was thinking...the accel pump...i just hate to buy the whole kit just for the accel pump... next question, can a rookie do a carb kit??? i didn't do mine, i got a pony...but my brother in law don't want to buy one, he want us to do it....how easy or hard is the carb to rebuild with the kit??????

Yes a piece of cake. especualy the 1b carbs .

When taking it apart be carefull not to lose anyparts... I don't remember where it is but there is a little round ball barren under a screw inside the carb.. watch for it when you turn the carb upsidedown. A carb kit should have an exploded view of the carb. but there purity easy anyway.. there well also be extra parts in the kit so don't worry if you don't use all of the parts.. most kits well service several different carbs so there well be extra parts. Mostly all you well use is gaskets (match it up with the ones you take off) accelator pump, needal and seat, the little ball barren (it well be under a little squair weight, I think it has something to do with the accelator pump not sure).. becarefull of the float not to bend it up, the adjustments are discribed in the kit.
take care
tim
