I had a similar problem, and found out the the crab's throttle plate was not opening up the whole way. Get a friend and have him/her mash the gas pedal all the way to the floor, you can then look down the throat of the carb (after you open the choke plate if its cold outside) and make sure the throttle blade is 90* to the floor of the intake manifold.
I bet its mostly due to the 3.9 rear end ratio, but its worth a look into the carb.
