I pulled this mystery carb out of my carb cleaner, & now see its a Holley. Stamped (not cast) in the center body on the fuel bowl is 4701-1, under that 1238.
The carb has two floats on a single shaft, with floats on either side of carb bore. There are annular rings in the bore.
Its off a 63 Ranchero, been on there a while, but a carb kit for that year Ranchero shows a single float & the gaskets are completely different.
What is this, & what do I ask for in a carb kit?? Can anyopne point me to a on line exploded view?? Mutt

posting a pic is far beyond my laughable computer skills.....mutt

Actually, it is kind of complicated on this site, because it does not host the pictures.

You must upload the picture to a host and then provide a link to it.

But that's another thread.

What is the code on the log on the head?
Also what are the center to center dimensions of the two carburetor bolts?
Maybe even give the number on the side of the block at least first two characters.
Whole engine may have been replaced along with the carb.
Never been uncommon to do this.
Not one of these is it?

its not like yours, or is it a 1904, 1909, or 1940 thru 46.........odd lil beast.
still stumped....mutt

Did you compare the placement of the stamping on yours to the stamping positionss in the link I posted above?

The only reference I can find for a holley with a 4701 list number is the following:
R-4701AAA
1940
1962-67 Ford Econoline & Pass., 144,
170 & 200 Eng. W/Hand Choke
I think this indicates it to be a 1940 but I can assure you I sure don't know.

you might have cracked it.......right years, and it came thru without provision for automatic choke......mutt
