holly 2300 questions

im going to switch from a old worn out autolite 1100 to a holly 2300 carb i had in my garage. ive got a 69 250ci. i had a few questions i was hoping could be answered


1) i dont know the CFM is there a way to tell like a number stamped on it anywhere?

2) where can i buy a adapter to fit it

3)do i need to switch to a throttle cable? and how about sould i change the stock setup if i do
and
4)can you get it to fit under the hood without clearance issues

Answer-
If the number stamped on the air horn is-
#4412 it is a 500 cfm
#7448 it is rated at 350 cfm.

Clifford, Summit and others have adapters available.

Answer-
Mounted so that the fuel bowl is away from the engine you will need to convert to a cable over the valve cover, in front of the carb. Later model valve covers have brackets to facilitate the cable end. A pedal/cable assembly from a Maverick/Comet works quite well.

4)can you get it to fit under the hood without clearance issues.
Answer-
The Holley 2300 is about 3/4" shorter than an 1100 at the air cleaner mounting lip. The bowl vent is about 1/4" shorter. My Clifford adapter stands 1 7/8" tall. You didn't say what vehicle you're working with so I can't say for sure. You can do away with the stock OEM carb adapter and gain about a half an inch. I'm using a low profile air cleaner assembly from an '81 LTD with a V8.

Figure out which carb you have and then we can talk about tuning the carb to meet your needs.

actually you dont HAVE to (but it was easier to do and much less complicated), I ran mine with a linkage that I made for a few months until I finally decided to try that whole cable thing everyone was talking about... Made SOOOO much of a difference I love it! I got mine off a van that was given to us... to be junked.
 
from what i can find the number on the airhorn is 4643 the whole number is LIST-4643-1(next line is 261). its going in a 1967 mustang coupe with a 69 250. im pretty sure its the 350cfm becuase it has the same paint or coat that is on hollys website for the 350.

so is the gas pedal setup i need a floor mounted pedel? does anyone have part numbers from NPD or another similar site for referance? thanks again for the help.
 
ok i figured it out its a 500cfm carb. but now im worried that its too much carb for a completly stock250. im going to upgrade it but not right now so should i just wait?
 
Any Holley carb will be fine on a 250. It will cope with any Holley 2-bbl carb ever made. A 500 will work real well.

Holley's list number is just a part code, so don't get worried about the funny numbers. I've seen lots of oddball listings.

The 350 and 500 cfm carbs were released on a range of vehicles as standard replacements. 7448 (350) and 4412 (500) are the most common. But there are a few truck and export 1970-1988 versions which had other weird stampings like 4782 (355 cfm), 4783 (500 cfm), 6425 (650 cfm), 9117 (350 cfm), 9647 (500 cfm) etc.

The Holley 2-barrel first came out in AMC Rambler Sedans and International Harvester Trucks in around 1962, and there are crap-loads of oddball 280, 320, 350, 355 and 500 and even 650 cfm versions of it. There have been early types with the really stepped truck type boosters, the standard downleg boosters, and even the mag wheel like Economiser boosters with 8 slots.
 
thats good to know so does the mpg decrease alot with a 500cfm? and any tips or links to other posts about jetting? thanks again guys.

Do a search of posts by "wsa111" as author, or "#4412" for tips on jetting and tuning.

If tuned right mileage should be about the same as a well tuned one barrel- IF you can keep your foot out of it.
