Hood clearance w/Clifford adapter? (69 Mustang)

Now that I've ordered the Clifford (2.75" adapter), a Demon 2V carb, and JEGS breather (2.18" height from flange) for my 250 I6, I'm noticing there isn't a ton of space between the stock intake manifold adapter flange and hood. Anyone else try this setup? Am I going to be stuck milling something, or cutting the hood out for a scoop? I suspect I shoulda at least went with an offset and drop-base air cleaner....but I reckon unless someone else has done this combination, I may need to wait until I get the stuff in and try putting it all together.

Thanks for any help/advice...

James

Sounds like your setup very similar to mine, I'm running a Holly 350 on top of a Clifford adapter with the lowest profile 10" air cleaner I could find. I have a total of 3/8' of clearance to the bottom of the hood (use some Play-Dough that the Neighbor kid had, he thought that was pretty cool watching me close the hood on a ball of Play-Dough)
Hope this helps you out.

Hey Bill, thanks so much for the help - I can live with that clearance if I need to. :)

Can I ask - does your rig also have a factory adapter, that the PCV hose connects to? This sits on top of my intake manifold - its mounting bolts that screw into the intake measured 3-3/8", and I didn't see a Clifford adapter for that, so I went with the 2.75" adapter that will mate with studs on top of my stock adapter. Does this sound familiar?

Nice looking setup, btw - who made those headers???

Thanks again,
James

I have the Trans Dapt adapter and a Holley 500 cfm sitting on the intake of my '83 LTD and it fits under the hood just fine. I was able to use the little plate that the pcv hose plugs into as well. With a 9 x 2 in air cleaner I have some room under the hood, but I bet it's not much.

Thanks! I ordered a 14" breather, and looking up at the hood, there's a lip that I'm betting I'm gonna hit. I'll probably need to get a 9" or 10"...oh well, maybe I can sell the new one to someone local, or maybe JEGS will let me return it. Then again, maybe I'll get lucky and it'll just fit. :)

ARGH!!! I just got an email from Clifford telling me the adapter I ordered is out of stock for 30 days. I'm asking them if they have anything that will fit directly to my manifold (with 3-3/8" centers). If they don't, I may CX the order and buy from their competition (think I saw a post somewhere about another adapter manufacturer).

Cool car Bill. I was not aware there were any other 69 fastbacks here. I have mine set up with headers, duals and an aircleaner made from a 1970 Falcon. I really like the hoses and brace you have on, what parts and supplier? Also what is the alt you are using? Looks very cool.

How far from the shock tower does the brace mount?

I will try to get some recent images of mine. I am installing a cd player/speaker system, and wheel and rocker trim this week. Then a max cleaning for a cruise night and then car show. I found some vinyl that matches the interior exactly so the package tray will get covered with it. I was thinking of gluing some foam and then cutting rows to match the seat patterns. I have not decided yet.

Thanks Jim.

check for the other psot on here using a stovebolt adaptor re-drilled....this may solver your problems

On the adapter I have, I have to shave a few thousandths more out of the hole to make them fit. Best thing to do about the air cleaner is go to your local parts store and see if they have an air cleaner riser kit. They're made by Spectre and I found that you can turn the riser upside down and it will lower the air cleaner by a little.

I talked to both Stovebolt and Clifford today, and I'm glad I did (I didn't realize how lost I was, LOL)...the Stovebolt adapter won't work with the Demon carb I have ordered - but, the best part is that the Clifford adapter I actually needed, is in stock (whew). The original Ford adapter plate on my manifold needs to come off, which will give me a little more clearance (hopefully enough so I can shut the hood). :D Both companies were nice to talk with, and both tried to sell me on their carb kits (didn't budge - I like what I've read so far about my Demon).

James

I now have the Demon carb, my breather, and the special fuel inlet the carb takes (JEGS is fast), but now I gotta wait on my Clifford adapter. Think it may be early next week, but I'll keep my fingers crossed for this weekend - it'll be tortue to have this beauty of a carb sitting around not hooked up all weekend long, lol.

James

i have the trans dapt adapter from summit, and i just barely clear the hood with the pcv spacer and a autolite 2100.

the trans dapt adapter mounts the carb in the right direction with no mods as long as you use the spacer. although the valve cover needed a slight adjustment with the BFH to clear the throlle linkage

sorry  Not sure wtf just happened :?

wait... it edited that?
