I replace mine based on mileage, not age. Typically every 24,000 miles for me, but that could be several years. The best advice I can give you is to check the condition of the cap and rotor frequently for cracks and wear.

I know some people won't belive me but I have a set of wires I bought in 1989 they have over 150k miles. however then they cost $50. I bought them at jegs when I worked there. they are accel 8.8 spiral core wires. If cared for (not burned on headers) these spiral cores will last and last. I bought them for my 88gt 5.0 and now they are on my old 351w bronc.

Like Bronco said...It is generally a good idea to change wires every 100k miles. Also, the general rule of thumb for cap and rotor is about every 20-30k miles. IF you run a hotter ignition (hotter coil, MSD, etc) you'll usually have to replace the cap and rotor about every 10-20k miles. My last cap and rotor lasted about 15k before it started having problems.
