What numbers do I look for to match on the head and block? Where are the number... I found the C6DE on the block and head... is it the numbers after that should match the stamp on the fenderwell?

Ford never really did the whole 'numbers matching' bs that the other manufacturers are known for. However sometimes things do match like my '68 Mustang's C4 transmission has the exact same number stamped into it as the VIN (I think that is a fluke). But instead they put on the casting code as you have already found then near the casting number there will be some other numbers that designate the month/year your part was cast. Cast date numbers to be relatively close, but older then, the production date of your car.

I was told when I bought it from the Nephew of the original owner that inherited the car.... that the engine was the original, I would just like to verify it.

There's no way to really tell. The casting numbers on the block are under the exhaust manifold, and the ones on the head are on the rear of the intake.

As long as they start with C5** or C6** (1965 or 1966) they could be correct. Ford was real bad about putting whatever was left over in the parts bin into their cars, no matter if the part was last year's model or whatever.

i think most "collectors" consider it to be "numbers matching" if the drive line was made within 6 months of the car being assembled.

Isnt it crazy how many 'numbers matching' cars there are out there? Arent the only cars that have 'numbers' most of the chebbys and some of the Mopar muscle cars?
