what is the difference between an electrical and mechanical gauge? I see lots of guys running mechanical gauges to verify temps I need one really bad, because my electrical is wrong for sure I know it...

how would I go about getting something and putting it in?

some suggestions?

An electrical gauge is a transducer that converts the difference in voltage between two metals at a temperature into a signal that is sent to a current sensitive movement.

A mechanical gauge works sort of like a thermostat.. the heat expands a gas or liquid which mechanicaly moves an indicator dial.

Mechanical is more accurate and reliable.

Get a universal kit from Autozone. You put it in place of the TSU on the head. I ran mine temporarily through the transmission hole. I was only using it to verify temps and then I removed it. If you want more permenant, then just drill a hole through the firewall.

a good way to check the acuracy of a mechanical temp guage is to place the bulb into a pot of boiling water - should read 212 deg f.

you just have to be so technical...

I wouldn't put it in right as it was boiling though. I did that and one of my mech gauges broke because the temp went up too fast. The gauge stopped working. I would put it in before you apply heat and just watch it. You'll need to make sure that it isn't touching the pot or any of the wire is touching the pot.
