I have finally joined the club!!!

well I drove it for the first time tonight!!!!

couple issues....

1. still not idling...might be a float level issue?

2. wastegate line not hooked up (ie no limit on boost right now)

3. epoxy failed on pump fitting so going to machine a proper nipple for a vac line

4. cable pedal needs raised on firewall.....hits floor at about 1/2 throttle.

I might redo the epoxy on the pump again and give it another try tomorrow and pic up some line and a TEE for the wastegate and give this all a shot at only 1/2 throttle around town if I can get it idling

I only pulled a holeshot for about 15' but when I lifted you could hear it spool down and it pulled pretty strong for only 1/2 throttle....or it could be I am that used to riding a bicycle that ANYTHING is fast

Man I am sorry to hear you have'nt turbocharged that bicycle yet !! Hurray for getting your first 15' run. I know you will work out your bugs pretty quick. Definitely keep us up to date on your progress.

Awwww, come on now!

You need to be running right and making boost to be "in the club"

well gonna turn some screws today and see if I can get this idle thing figured out. but should hopefully be running full on next weekend.

Thats 15' further you've gone on a turbo motor than the rest of us.
Im jealous!

I second that... now how can I get the money to do a turbo... well I could sell me car... no then I coudnt drive anything... I could sell my laptop... and digital camera... and psp... and all my old parts and... well maybe next year... and I dont tihnk my engine would be a good cantidate for a turbo.. the heads been milled a couple of times... and well that wouldnt go so well... (no one correct me let me think what I want to... ) :)

well it looks like I migh tbe building another manifold for it now....picked up a factory ac setup and it won't clear unless I slide it back a couple inches.

Piece of cake ... just run alcohol or race gas, no worries...

yeah he has been buggin me for it forever!!

well I poked a little this afternoon.....can get a nice idle on the mains but soon as I turn it down it just dies. where are the openings for the airbleeds for teh idle circuit at? I was gonna try squirting some carb cleaner in there and see if it gets drawn in the motor at least. I pulled the turbo back off and ran a die on the exhaust studs to clean them up and put it all back together. still need to crawl underneith with a million miles of extensions to tightern up the downpipe though and then the exhaust should be leak free (right now it is all blowing straight up and in my face while messing with the carb so is making that kinda tough.

on thing though is on a REAL high idle you hear a whistle form teh tailpipe :D

edit:

I also found a vac port where the choke used to be that I need to plug up. putting my finger over it has no change in this idle problem

Look in the top of the throat, they are small and made of brass. The two "larger" ones are main bleeds and the two smaller ones are idle bleeds.

I think you have some junk in the metering plate, or the wrong gaskets still. Just feels like it to me. Or a huge vacuum leak somewhere.

Send it to me postpaid and I'll look at it for you!

well I guess maybe I will try some different gaskets tomorrow night. and look the metering block over real well.

pulling the fuel pump back off tonight so I can take it in the shop tomorrow and drill and tap it for a thread in brass nipple (and make a nipple too)

then it will jsut be a matter of getting this stupid carb set up and messing with the throttle cable

I found there isn't enough meat to tap out to 1/8" NPT on the pumps I played with.

I drilled the vent hole to 1/4" and used a small tye wrap to smear a SMALL amount of epoxy inside (very small amount) and coated the outside of a piece of steel 1/4 tube. worked perfect!

The epoxy you use needs to be able to flow like pancake or corn syrup, not thick like JB weld.

I am going to go with a plain machine thread on the pump and nipple and use loctite to hold it in place. I am starting to wonder if the base gasket got put on backwards? the meterblock and bowl gaskets only go on one way and I looked them over and the ports line up on them...

Get it together by spring, and we can bracket out in Wisconsin (Union Grove), Ill bring my SHO, and youll probably tear me a new orpheus.

Finally, man. 8)

well I finished up the pump mods (tapped the pump for a 5/16-18 thread and turned an AL nipple and loctites it in)

got it back on and started it up with the tank unhooked to run the carb dry to pull it and tear it down tomorrow. checked the bleeds and they were full of junk. looks like they are gonna need a drill ran through them to clean them up. I have a full assortment of small drills I can get to in teh machine shop but I wanted to ceck to make sure that I can get to all the passages to clean them out. are any of the idle circuit holes plugged?

but I might leave the carb one for another day or two and give it a road test idling on the mains and just see how it reacts underboost at 1/2 throttle load.

well I was talking a real small drill I can jsut twist by hand in there to get the impacte junk out with....not opening them up in size or anything

linc is right I think.....lots of tuning needed.....

I drove it under boost for the first time tonight. I think I got a little blowby or just a leaky VC since I oil all over one side the motor. (I had swapped cover the other night)

it is kinda flat feeling once it gets going so it might just be a little rich I think. but I gotta work 9am-10pm tomorrow so I will have to wait until saturday to sort things out on it. I might drive it over to school the next two days and jus tnot romp on it throught the gears and work on tracking down the oil issue. it is not coming from teh turbo side of the motor so I guess that is good....

now I just need to get some money together for some parts I bought yesterday on ebay......why does payday have to be a week away still!!!
