I have the 2bbl carb on now. I need to fab. some connections

Hi,

I have the 2bbl (5200) carburetor and the carburetor adapter installed. I need some help fabricating the connections. I am using the Clifford (model 1651) 2-3/4" carb adapter. In the picture below there are three connections that I must fabricate: The fuel line, the vent hose, and the hose in the middle which goes to the engine block. Actually, I do have the middle hose hooked up. I rigged the connection by screwing a barb from my brother's PC water cooling supplies into the adapter. Since the carburetor is backwards (compared to the 1bbl carburetor) the fuel line will not reach. Once again, I picked through my brother's water cooling supplies for some tubing and slipped one end over the fuel line. The other end needs to go the the carburetor but I need a new barb to screw into the carburetor. I can probably go to Sears Hardware and find the correct barb size since I have the old one (which is broken). I still need to attach the vent hose. What I need to know is: What size connection do I need to fit into the adapter? The arrow in the picture is pointing to the vent hose that goes to the valve cover. What size would that connection be?

Thank you very much,

Justin :D

I can't think of what hoses there would be other than the gas, vacumn and pcv. Since you have two of the carbs take the other to the local autoparts store, not the reg autozone type, they should have what you need and get the correct fuel hose, that is dangerous.

Good luck,
don

I put a 5200 in about a month ago and just reversed the route of my fuel line tube. Instead of going around the front of the engine, it now loops about the back and feeds the carb from the other side. This is because the fuel outlet on the 5200 faces the rear of the engine. As for the connection, I used a small section of 1/4 inch fuel hose and to clamps to hook to to the outlet on the carb. That method held up on the Autolite for over 5 years with no trouble, so I am hoping for the same on the 5200.

I am not sure on the size of the PVC fitting though. Mine just fit right into the Clifford adaptor.

Good Luck!

I am going from memory, but I think the PCV line is a 3/8" hose.

when i went to pick up some line for my pcv jar system i got some 3/8" fit nice and snug.

they should have what you need and get the correct fuel hose, that is dangerous.

Don,

Are you referring to the water cooling to tubing I used? It is 3/8" and seems like it would work fine. It is TYGON tubing. I will forego this method of linkage if it is indeed dangerous. Thanks for the help Don. (thanks again for the carbs :D )

In the picture below there are two visible thread holes. The one on the left is where the vent hose goes. I need an attachment that screws into there and will allow me to slip the hose over. If you look at the picture in my original post you see that the two hoses fit over barbs that are actually cast into the carburetor body. The thread on the left is 3/8", correct? Can I purchase a 3/8" barb to screw into the thread then slip the hose over the other end of the barb? Will this impede the flow in any way? The thread on the right is the one which I used a barb from my brothers PC supplies. That should work fine.

Thanks for all the help so far everyone, I really appreciate it. :D

I just realized that I do not know what to do with the heater hose! Normally it connected to the base of the 1bbl carb but now I see no place to connect it with the 2bbl carb in place. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Justin

Get an new hose and run it straight from the water pump to the heater core. Zip tie it to the shock tower, out of the way of the exhaust.

In the first pic I posted the hose below the fuel line is the beginning part of the heater hose assembly? Just to bypass the carb. with a new heater hose, correct?

Thanks

The thread on the right is originally where I had the heater hose attached. Thanks to ludwig I realized I could run the heater hose straight to the heater core and bypass the carburetor adapter. When I got returned home from my girlfriends house tonight I was looking at a package of pictures that I had just picked up after being developed. One of the pictures was of the 1bbl carburetor still in place. I was looking at the picture and it hit me: Since I am going to re-route the heater hose I can attach the PCV hose where I originally had the heater hose! Now all the lines are connected!

This morning I began to fabricate an extension for the accelerator assembly. I cut a piece of aluminum and originally planned to drill a hole in the end of the accelerator line but it was not working out. I think the drill bit was too dull. Plan B: Use the Resbond 907GF epoxy I used for the port divider. I applied some epoxy to the aluminum and clamped it in place. I will see how it worked out in the morning and if it is successful I will epoxy the other end to the carburetor linkage. Then I will attempt to start the car. 8)

Thanks for all the help!

Are we sure that the whole on the left side isn't the one for the linkage stud?? The Right one is for the PCV Valve to Valve cover. Just asking, Good thing you didn't hook up the heater hose to it. I started at the top and got sceared for a few posts.

Take a look at my website

http://www.albertpenello.com/mustang/

Go to the "Engine" page and about 1/2 way down you'll see HOLLEY/WEBER 5200 2 Barrel with that same adapter connected to my engine and how all the linkages, etc. should work. You don't want to epoxy ANYTHING to do with your throttle linkage - that's suicide. Get the proper mounting studs from an auto parts store and bolt up the correct linkage. Go get yourself a better drill-bit. If that epoxy fails at 65mph you have no throttle and you're in for a major accident. Do it right the first time and be safe! :D
