I'm contemplating adding a turbo to my 69 falcon. I would retain the 200. What size turbo would you experienced folks recommend? I would be using the car as a recreational driver, with the occasional trip to the strip. I will be running fuel injection, and setup and tuning is not an issue for me. I just don't have any experience selecting an appropriate size unit. I have a Garrett unit from an 85 Turbo coupe, .60 cold side, .63 hot side, and a Garrett unit from (I beleive) an 80s Chrysler, .48 cold side, and either .60 or .63 hot side. I'm considering the Tbird unit, as I feel the Chrysler unit is too small on the cold side. I also have access to other units, and don't mind buying the correct one, if I don't already have it.

I am running the t-bird unit (well an SVO unit but just has a different compressor outlet on it) I think it is a good match and starting point for a 200. you can go bigger but can always upgrade down the road too. it will flow about 225hp worth of air so should get you going.

the turbine elbows on those are cast steel and can be mig welded (makes for fitting a 3" outlet easier)

so what are you looking at for EFI?

I've already built and started bench testing an MS2, and I'll actually have Bruce Bowling here at my school next week, so I can pick his brain a bit about one or two questions I have. I'm planning on a late iron head (can't afford Mikes right now) with injector bosses brazed to the runners, and a triple inlet to the log (Like a triple Ace setup), fed from one throttle body. Planned on using a TC or SVO style CAC, mounted horizontally under the hood on the driver's side, fed by an Oz/Kiwi Falcon GT hoodscoop. I'll be building my own header (I LOVE fabbing that sort of stuff!!), and splitting the exhaust into 1 3/4" or 2" duals. Probably run the TFI dizzy setup (I think you created) from here, or EDIS if I can get a tone wheel on the balancer/crank gear (I have access to a full manual/NC/CNC machine shop here on campus). 225hp is the top end of where I'd like to be. 1hp per cube would be fine for now (yes, I know boost is addictive!!) I have access to all different size turbos from diesel truck engines, you know....

The problem with most of those is the overly large exhaust housing.
One exception would be a HY35 or HX35 Holset (with the smaller exhaust housing)

Well, then you are all out of excuses.

We'll be expecting pictures of the beginnings of your HY35 set-up in a week or so....

Got a HX35 or HX40 laying around you want some $$$ for?
I have a buyer.

I have an HY35 but its going in my Stratus powered Neon (2.4L 4 cylinder). If I ever get off my duff and stuff a 300 in my Maverick (or maybe with the current 250) I'd like to try an HX40. Gotta finish the Neon first then I can make the Maverick my fast car. 8)

Nissan (UD Truck) and Isuzu use Garretts only that I have seen. And unfortunately, no, I don't have any I can sell. They're school property, but I can use them for mock-up and testing, but I have to replace them if I use one.

They are probably far too small anyway. The HY35 came on 5.9 liter Cummins, so you would need to look at engines in that range.

oh, I'm not so sure about them being too small.... The Garrett on the Isuzu 7.8L I6 Duramax I have is almost the size of two cantalopes...

but I'm gonna try the TurboCoupe unit and see what happens.
