Idle screw loose

Just finished rebuilding my Autolite 1100 and now my idle speed screw keeps backing off periodically, resulting in the engine stalling until I tighten it back up.

It was originally missing the spring (part no. 9578) before the rebuild, so I didn't add one when I reassembled the carb (the fast idle screw's spring was intact). I would think the spring would only provide tension against tightening (clockwise) and not backing off (counterclockwise), so didn't think it would be a big deal to not find a replacement.

Is my thinking wrong here? :)

Thanks Ludwig. I realize it was kind of a stupid question, however as it was fine before the rebuild without the spring, I guess there was probably just enough sludge to keep it in place before everything was cleaned up :)

Hopefully I can pick one of these up at my local parts place.

My 1100 and one of my golf carts have that problem also.

I have used teflon tape in the past. You just got to be careful to only put it on the outer part of the threads cuz if it gets into the passage it plugs things up.

I have seen ads for loctite tape. Keep forgetting to look for it at stores but it seems like that could work also.
