Been gone for a while... sorry I had to leave everything and go make some money.

Anyway, I am back and getting ready to get into the Mustang again now that the summer is here....

Just a brief update on how things fell into place.
After working very hard trying to figure things out and getting nowhere in the end I got some help. I was having the exact same problems Doug was having with his rebuild, run-on, poor idle vacume 10 inches at 900 rpms with some fouled plugs.

We finally got it to run nicely using a 6.5 power valve and tuning the distributor to run with 17 degrees initial and a limited draw on the vacume to give a little better curve, it is not right, the distributor needs recurved to be 100%. but this has worked well for a few rides here and there, and I have not been driving it too much, so I am all ready for the Dyno now.

I have found a local Ford Performance shop in Douglasville with a Dyno... I am taking the car in two weeks to put it up and re-curve the dizzy, tune the Holley and really get the numbers perfect.

But it runs like a dream right now, things are broken in nicely about 4500 miles on her right now!

I have added a third brake light, new horns, the stereo with amps 1500 watts now and seven speakers. I replaced the steering column with a Flaming River unit and put in new bearings up top... this has had one of the greatest returns for dollars spent to pleasure gained... that steering column and bearing made this car drive completely different... much tighter and handles better... I used to get backlash from big holes in the wheel not no more!

anyway, here are some pics of how she looks tonight! hope I can dive back in again and continue this project out... soon it will be time to tear this entire car apart again, paint and re-assemble!

both are 61 for now... although I think that may change once the tune is done, seems like it is still a little rich... I'll let you know the final sizes and post the HP curves once the Dyno is done!

Welcome back Jimbo,
I was wondering if you had any success with your engine problems. Glad to hear that it is working well. I'm not surprised to hear that you had to use 17 degrees initial timing. It may need limited on the upper end now.

welcome back...i notice that the filter is blue...is that a K&N or stock cotton filter with that colored oil stuff they sell? that setup looks real awesome..hope u get it running real sweet soon..take care. :D

he jimbo ! back , already thought , where is he ?
didnt yet install my struttower ?

btw didnt get the 2 last pakkage you did send me , i,m stil missing the rotors . spindels and the m/s comp !
got some info for me ? send datum ?tracking nr ?

I had to pull the Monte Carlo bar, the PCV cap I had to install was in the way.

I had the tower setup in the car, still need to fit it to the shocktowers - it is binding on the bolts, which will require me to cut the old braces off the tower and open up the holes in the plates.
So I am holding off a little more... pulled the crosses out and put the stock braces back for now...

Harrie - I will PM you about the package!!

The blue filter is a High Flow filter, found it at Pep Boys with the aftermarket stuff all chromed out, tis where I got the chrome 9" filter in the first place... they had red and blue... thought the blue was cool.

looks like the "kool blue" brand I think they are a lttle better than a k&n

Jimbo,
Glad things are coming together!
First off I'm running about 17° initial also and find it to be "about" right. I'm wondering when you said "we" in the fixing, was that a shop you went to? 10in at that idle doesn't sound to bad and your back to Manifold Vacuum? How's the temperature issues? Did you drop your running temps at idle and speed? Do you have your numbers for Mechanical and Vacuum advance as well before the dyno and once you get your dyno done could you post those as well? I'm just compairing notes here and am interested if there's a "standard" or base line we can work to.
Thanks and congrats!

Steve

Good to hear you sorted most of it out. My 390 4V is running a 6.5 PV, and it's almost perfect, though I think I need to change the accelerator pump out as it can really flood the engine if I have the revs below like 1400 RPM and give it gas (like when I'm too lazy to shift out of 5th gear at 40MPH).

I know my vacuum is at 16" with a Comp 260H. I'm currently set at 10* initial, with 34-36* total at 3000 RPM. I know i'm running just slightly on the lean side judging by my plugs, so I'm guessing I may need to jet my primaries up 1-2 sizes, and I may need to delay my secondaries one set, as they come in too early for economical highway driving. They have a perfect transition, no bog or anything, just coming in too early.
