Hi, Im new here, but Im very happy I found this board.
Over the next few months my dad, a couple friends and I are going to be building a HAMBster dragster. Some of you may know about the HAMB(hokey ass message board), but its basically a bunch of guys that are into old school hot rods and drag racing.
If you want more info go to jalopyjournal.com
Anyway that brings me to you our little dragster will be a period correct 50's style dragster (non slingshot) with cars like "the bug" in mind.
The obvious choice would be a flathead v8, BUT We have decided to run a 223, mainly because we have access to several engines, and because it will be cool!
right now we are in the planning stages, but Im sure Ill have plenty of questions that you can answer, and Ill post all of the stuff we learn on here. I Port and rebuild cylinder heads so ill post flow numbers and cutaways and things like that for you guys to see.
Thanks in advance
Kurt

Looking forward to your input.
As a 223 owner myself, I'm always looking for more info on performance. be sure to post lots of pics of your progress, and keep everyone informed!!

Hey man this is 215slowpoke from the hamb.
Let me know what your doing to the head and if you want ill send you one to do for me

This is supposed to be the place for questions.

Send me a PM on the HAMB if you have any questions.

Call the guy at clifford and ask him to look at his notes. They told me what valves and everything they ran in there heads but i forgot.

for shame man,,, it aint a HAMBster... its an NHRA sanctioned car now! lmao

(we are NEVER gonna live the HAMBster name down)

they are calling them HAMB Gas Rails, or HA/GR class dragsters.

FWIW, im building one myself and just picked up a few early 223 blocks, two 3speed trannies and a couple of '54 ford rears for my build. total cost for my HA/GR build to date including a 37 chevy frame is $125 :D

cant go wrong with that.

let us know how your heads come out, and like Travis (slowpoke) said i might be inclined to send you one of my heads to clean up for me.

Traves

I think the late 223 (& 262?) heads have the largest ports & valves. 215 heads breath the worst.

sounds good!!!!! i'm also peanut from the hamb. and thought about the same thing! i thought of useing a 226 or 254 flathead six? keep us posted. i do some port work from time to time. i would be glad to help in anyway

this should be a lot of fun! I wasnt anticipating so many guys that knew about the HAMB! I actually am a new member and havent posted anything on there yet, just reading. My brother is known as RECYCLER on there, and we are learning from the things he's doing His(and his friends) car is the silver one with the flathead and teapot carb(that used to be mine). Im kind of running all over the place right now, so if I dont post too often with any updates dont worry. Right now im trying to get a few good heads, and hopefully at least one bad one do my R & D on.
I was planning on talking to clifford for sure, but we are trying to do as much as we can without buying aftermarket, to keep it cheap and fun!

Viva La HAMB, and Viva La FordSix as well,.,, our own Mustangsix is a HAMBer too,,, its a small world holmes

FWIW, i think the Inline Six Fords are going to dominate the HA/GR class next year... hard to beat six in a row ya know
