Hi there.
My name is Dawn and this is my first time posting here. I have a 1965 Econoline Van w/a 170 and three on the tree. It's my daily driver (when I'm not on a bike....)

I wasn't sure which forum to post this question in, so I'm putting it up here.
:-)

Anyway, I have been having a heck of a time finding a replacement gas tank sending unit. Do any of ya'll know where I can get one?

Thanks

Thanks for the link.
Unfortunately, Mac's does not carry the unit! I called them last week.

I don't think it cross-references. I'm not sure tho. A tech at Mac's said that the sending unit for the '65 Econoline is specific to that model. Figures!
I kinda assumed that it would cross-reference with a Falcoln part or somesuch. I wish I had a chart of what parts cross with each other....

Thanks!

hey!
thanks. I will call them on Monday. I hope they have one in stock. I hate the idea of having to send them mine - I won't be able to drive my van for a week or more! :(

If it's a Stewart-Warner sender, they can be rebuilt. I had one done.

right now the van is stock. I'm waiting to see if I can get a 300ci to plop in there, but it seems that a 200 might be easier to install and would bolt up to my tranny. I like having the three on tree shift and would like to keep it.

what else? I'm planning on putting some side pipes on. Gotta find some seat covers.... I'm going to carpet the walls and ceiling, but keep the floor clear so I can load motorcycles and not worry about messing up the carpet :-)
I'm thinking I might put that liner in the pick-up trucks use. I forgot the name right now tho.

There are a few pics on my site: http://razorgirls.org/van/new/
I took them the day I bought it a few weeks ago. No pics from the front yet. D'oh! It's pretty clean. The guy who had it before me babied it. He cut most of the rusty parts out and did an ok welding job. When the sunlight hits it in certain ways, you can see his seams, but that's ok.

I just put in a stereo - couldn't be without tunes. Gotta fix some wiring tho - a fuse blew last night when I turned on my wipers! I have yet to figure out where to mount the speaker tho. Gotta keep them out of the way as much as possible.

This morning I discovered how much I need a cup holder! Driving to work with my coffee was a pain! heh.

Oh yeah, I would like to get some three-point seat belts too. I am terribly amused at the idea of putting in a five-point harness, but not amused enough to actually do it.

Any suggestions/ideas from ya'll are totally welcome! I know motorcycles way better than cars.

i'm not sure you'd do that well with a 200 and hauling a 'cycle
there is one guy here who towed a wagon with his ranchero with a 200, so it can be done, but i dunno

i thought the big sixes (the 240 at least) came in the early econolines?

The 240 was an option (along with the 170) in the 65 Econos. If it has the 170 I would suggest going with the 200 since it will be a bolt in swap. A 300 will go in there but it is not a direct bolt in by any means.

Welcome to the world of the early Econos. I have been driving a 62 three window pickup for 30 yrs and wouldn't trade it for anything.

thanks for the advice and discussion. I am so infatuated with this van. I've wanted one for ages. Had a '66 extended version for a short while, but it needed a lot of body work and I don't have any place right now to wrench on a van. I also had my heart set on the shorter van. I sold it and a few months later came across this baby. So, I'm happy now.

I'm used to old bikes and really like old vehicles. So easy to work on, so much style.... solid.... Not like the plastic throw-away cookie-cutter crap they make now. Sorry for the rant; I'm hungry.

I might have a line on a 300 - how much of a pain is it to fit in? What mods need to happen? Do I need to post this to a different thread? Altho there has prolly been tons of discussion around this already.

i dunno if i would say that is not a direct bolt on swap, you're going to need to change stuff from the small six stuff, but there wouldn't be any special fabrication needed
the 240 and the 300 are externally the same exact engine, so to get it to fit, you'd need to do everything that the 240 needs
most likely:
suspension upgrades to V8 grade stuff (if there's a difference between the small six and the V8)
radiator
tranny and rear-end
motor mounts
brakes

other than that, i can't think of anything else that you'd need

suspension upgrades to Vee-Eight grade stuff (if there's a difference between the small six and the V
radiator
tranny and rear-end
motor mounts
brakes

I will ponder this while eating dinner.

thanks!

depending on what the vehicle is equipped with (the only thing i know 'bout 'em is that they came with a big six, a small six, and a V8, that's it and that's all), you might not need to go through with all of those to get it to where it will safely handle it, i just listed the basic stuff to handle a V8 in a six-equipped mustang
your van might already have most, if not all of those things needed

however, if you are going to haul a bike and decide to just upgrade to a 200, i'd still do all of those things just for safety's sake

Seems like this would be an ideal application for a 250. It is 'almost' a bolt-in, certainly moreso than a 300.

I will increase the strength of the rear if I upgrade. It's definitely a good idea because I do haul bikes (mine, friends, to the track, etc....)

What's the deal with the radiator? Oh, right. Need more cooling power. So I could just take the 250 radiator.
(I think I need some coffee. Trying to think mechanically before waking up just doesn't work for me. heh)

The 250 swap - that's still a small block, yah? That sounds ideal. It definitely needs /more/. I 've got a bike in there right now and it's definitely pulling....

the 250 is still a small block, although it's maybe an inch wider, and an inch and a half taller
this isn't much, but it can cause creative solutions while doing a swap

for some ideas, read about the swap over here
