is it a freeze plug?

question... on a I6 250 when the tranny is removed there is one freeze plug on the left bottom... but there is another kinda in the middle of the motor. is that a freeze plug or a cap for the cam shaft on the other side. again you can only see it when the trannys removed.

reason why i'm asking is one is kinda rusted and if it is a freeze plug i'm gonna replace it... if not i'm probably gonna leave it. it just seems to be a weird place to have a freeze plug.

anyone one know what the hell it is... i'm all new to this I6 stuff!

i'd show you all a pic of it but i'm at my buddies shop right now with it up on the hoist and don't have a digtal camera.

The one in the middle is a casting core (freeze plug) for the coolant passage behind #6. The other one is the plug to the camshaft. The one for the cam rarely rusts, but you usually have to remove it to tap the cam out if you're rebuilding.

There is also a pipe plug at the rear of the block and a small freeze plug at the front behind the cam gear. These are the plugs for the camshaft oil gallery.

Huh gess I was lucky more or less, I got my cam out with out taking it out .

i got it replaced. one less thing i gotta worry about later now! it was the freeze plug!

now that the trannys in the car shifts like a bad boy now.. lol
