Is there such a beast???

I am so done messing with this autolite 1100 as it's beyond rebuildable, so I've been exploring other options

Found a holley 1946 from an early 80s mustang, thought salvation had arrived, but that joy was short lived

Found that my 170 has a small bore heat rise where the 200 has a larger one so the holley 1946 will not work as it's bolt pattern are further apart

Does someone make some sort of adapter/heat rise that allows you to go from a small bore intake to a larger bore heat rise???

Howdy,

I have seen it done to make the heat riser into an adapter.

Take the adapter off and get a COARSE stone or rasp for your drill and hack away. Be a little careful on the side where the hot water passes through to NOT hit the water jaciket.

You're goal is NOT to enlarge the passage all the way through... rather make a taper going down a 1/2 inch or so.

IIRC the harder part was slotting the bolt holes in the carb enough so it will fit the smaller bolt pattern of the heat riser. Again IIRC, we had three carbs to choose from - two could have their holes slotted enough to fit and still turn the nuts - one would not... I have NO inkling which carbs where what.

Good luck... Let us know how it turns out..

Howdy Too:

The other Schjeldahl is heard from. You didn't say what distributor you are working with. Your Old 1100, from 1963 until 1967, have a Spark Control Valve (SCV) to send a load modified vacuum signal to the Load-O-Matic distributor of those years. A Holley #1946 does not have a SCV, but sends a ported vacuum signal to a later distributor that has both mechanical and vacuum advance built in. It is not compatible with a Load-O-Matic distributor.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings.

Adios, David

don't be depressed though, this is the perfect timing to upgrade from the early distributor to the 68 or later system... If you are looking for better performance, a DSII swap would be a great addition.

Good luck

Thanks for the tips about the distributer guys. I've already experienced the load-o-matic fun and swapped in a DUI distributer several days ago.

I had hoped that plugging the vacume line for the distributer on the 1100 would do the trick, but unfortanetley the carb suffers from other issues.

Anyone have a working 1100 they wish to part with?? Sure would make life more simple

Howdy Back:

You will need to find a carb designed witn a ported vacuum source for your DS II to work as designed. The Carter YFs fit this bill and were used on both 170 and 200 engines beginning in 1970 through 1979. The only difference between the 170 and the 200 versions is the CFM- 150/187.

IF your head is a '74, it should have had a larger carb hole and a Carter YF carb already?????

Adios, David

I have a 1966 model 170 and installed a DUI centrifical advance distributer to eliminate the need for a vacume advance of any sort

Getting back to the issue at hand. The 1946 carb and riser have a larger port than the autolite 1100 and heat riser. Both the mounting bolt holes to the intake and the carb studs are different width with the 170 setup being narrower.
