Is this a good price?

I called a company here in OKC, "Cylinder Head Specialists". I asked the guy how much they would charge to have .012 milled off my head, do a three angle valve job, put in my teflon seals and put it all together for me springs and all. He asked me if the valve spring seat (not the valve seats) would need to be machined, I said no, I don't think so, but I am not sure what he was talking about :? . He quoted me a price of $150.00 as their standard head job price. I thought that was pretty good. I also asked him about the cost of milling the log flat for a bigger carb setup, he said he would have to look at that before he could give me a price. :o :o

I had my head planed and a 3 angle, springs replaced (I believe with stock ones) had a crack fixed, milled, valves replaces valve seats replaced, all for either 200 or 250, but I didnt get the teflon spring seals put in, kinda wish I would have... but ya sounds good to me... mine was done at a race shop though and they were busy and I was in no hurry so I got it all done in a month or so...

Howdy Darwin:

Considering the additional machinning necessary to install the teflon seals $150 assembled is not too bad.

You might want to add an additional back cut to the intake valves for a little more flow at all lifts. My shop added an additional $12 to do it.

If you're using stock 200/250 springs you might want to shim the springs .030" for a a little extra seat pressure.

Please tell me about the Corteco head gasket you mentioned in Laxmans post.

Adios, David

That Corteco High CR gasket has a crush thickness of .038 instead of .52 like the stock Corteco does, so essentially you dont have to mill as much off the head to achieve your stock CR.

Well, never got around to taking it in this weekend, I had a friend tell me he had a line on a T5 and that he thought it was a good deal. Unfortunately when I finally got a hold of him the T5 was history. This is where I get hung up the most. I will have a plan and then another good deal comes into play and I either end up spending my funds on that or waiting on something to come into fruition and it puts me back another week or two. But I think that's what makes this process so much fun. If no more "good deals" come along I will most likely take it in next weekend. Thanks for the feedback. :)
