hey i was just wondering if the clifford performance blueprinted head is any good? also can i use classic inlines cam and rocker arms or do i have to use the ones from clifford? the price looks good but i dont want to spend the money just to find out i went the wrong way.

Its a good head and definetly flows better than a stock log but why would you spend 700 on it when a ci head is about 1500 for an all aluminum head made for a 4bbl and it flows much better check it out on their site. Even an ussie head if you shop around can be found for about the same price and will probably flow a little better.

$700 for a ported big valve head is not an awful deal by any standard. Particularly if you want to keep a stock appearance. And yes, you can use any rocker assembly you want. They all interchange on this engine.

However, it still has the 1 barrel carb mount, and that has to be converted for a direct mount two barrel or a triple carb setup in order to break into any serious performance. Either way, an additional expense which will run the price up well over $1000. At that point you are getting pretty darn close to the aluminum head cost, but nowhere near the potential. The cost/benefit ratio starts to head the wrong way really quickly on the stock style heads.

Search this board for Clifford. Most of us have had delivery and other issues with their products. If you have time to wait and/or not in a hurry, then go with Cliffy. One of the first upgrades I did was a set of headers from Cliffords, and this was before Mike's ClassicInlines got into the performance parts biz. To make a long story short, Cliffy was way late on the delivery, and all I got was a ton of BS on the phone when I called. I'm old enough to "never say 'never' ", so I'll just say I can't imagine a scenario where I'll do business with Clifford again.

For that much, I definately would wait for an Aussie to come along. However, if you really want to reach a vast difference in performance, you MUST get the CI head. There is no comparison. The difference could be over 30hp, not to mention the weight savings.

Not to bash Them but you're at their mercy on which head you get.A post 78' head has larger valves and a larger diameter log.You could end up with a early head with a small diameter log and small combustion chamber.

thanks for the advice i would hate to spend hard earneed money and get crappy service. i think ill just wait a little longer for the aluminum head. waiting is so hard!!!!!

if i were you, i would get a later head from like a 77 or later, they let air flow much much better then the ones we got on now. if you go down to auto zone you can find it there for about 275-300 i think the item # is for1313 i think now a 100% sure though
