Just picked up the July issue and was going through it when I came acrossthe Pony Express section and there was a picture sent in from Ben in Bakersfield Ca. of his aussie headed 200 and a description of his combo. Also in the Beyond basics portion, another was asking some performance questions re the small six and rearend & tyranny upgrades. In the 1st paragraph of Bob Alibertos' response I quote"There has been a renewed interest in the Ford six-cylinder engine and the aftermarket industry has taken notice. Many of the old performance parts,as well as newly developed items, are being manufactured, allowing the engines to produce more horsepower" With that I send out a big thank you to AZcoupe and everyone else on the forum for shaking things up in the land of v/8's.

Now who would we all know named Ben that might have a picture of an Oz head to send into a mustang magazine?

Congrats on the picture and article getting posted

Yes, it was I. Just proving a point to "Little Roo" I have wanted him to send in a picture of his 1965 Aussie 4v Mustang, to the "YO club", hoping to get the big bucks ($400.) for parts from a Mustang Catalog company, he always tells me they won't accept it because it is just a little six? Well now he is really thinking about sending in an entry. Just as many of you should do that are between the age of 17-25 years old. Just happy to see something in these monthlys other than the same old V8 info they keep sending out to everyone. But the big question is will they print an article about the Paxton Supercharger I will be installing this summer on this little six?

Thanks, 82F100
I forgot that I had sent them an email with a picture, two or three months ago.

Congrats Ben!!

Noticed your pic and write up as soon as I had a chance to sit down and read it!

Thanks, Doug....
Just hoping to generate interest in the Ford Six, to the many readers of these magazines. I'm sure your Mustang would make a big hit in the Mustang Monthly with the mod's that have been done by you. Thanks for the kind words...

Ben,

Question on your supercharger setup??

Are you going to have a "V" belt pulley made for the supercharger or have custom pulleys made for the engine and swap to a flat belt??

I would look like to see a "real" buildup in a car magazine with dyno numbers and such! That article about the supercharged Mustang was nice, but had no real information in it :D :D

Later,

Doug

A big flat belt sure looks the goods, eh? I find it funny how many people see the Gilmer drive, and hear the straight cut gears on a car, and ascribe one to the other.

You can get a Gilmer kit for the GM small sixes here, but you'd probably need a different idler and crank pulley to make it fit the fords.

An offset scoop would be next on the menu.

Cheers, Adam.

Doug,

I called Paradise Wheels they now own and support the Paxton Superchargers or at least the SN series mine is a SN-89 and got a double pulley for standard auto belts ( other wise $250.00 for custom made balancer in 8 rib? the double pulley was $75.00 ) that someone had custom made to fit the SN-89 shaft, this way all I have to do is mount the supercharger to my A/C bracket use the double belts around the crank, water pump, supercharger and I will use the alternator as my idler arm. I got 1.5'x2'x 1/4" sheet of 5052 aluminum, I'll mount the supercharger like everyone else but the bracket will be bent (and welded) into a L shape, the bottom will have four holes and be bolted to the top of the A/C bracket. I'll need to relocate the battery to the trunk for more room for the supercharger.
supersn-89.jpg

The only problem is the belts may not last 5,000 miles and the alternator being used to tension the supercharger belts may also die quicker, but both of these problems are overshadowed by the fact this may be a very easy install? I have a T-bird intercooler that I may use and I plan on buying the 1997 Jeep air cleaner for a bonnet as another FSP member has done.
Also planned is to polish the Paxton and the aluminum bracket and plan to use thin steel tubing bent by my muffler shop to connect everything and have those pices jet hot coated in their chrome finish. Of course everything is subject to change as I proceed with the install, I'll post pictures along the way and post problems and fixes as they develop...

MustangSix,
It's too high as it is now it's almost 10.5 CR, my plans are to pull the thin metal gasket I have .018 and install one of them big thick ones and if I have to, free up some space in the chambers, I only plan on getting it down to the low 9's CR and hope to run 5 to 7 psi with 100* octane. I realise that by using the A/C bracket not everyone would or even want to install it this way but I allready had A/C, I'm just trying to install it with the fewest amount of dollars and as simple as possible.

I saved this whole thread for later study!

The only problem is the belts may not last 5,000 miles

Got a Napa auto parts store close to you?? They make a seperate line of V belts from their automotive line that you might want to check into....I get them for my riding lawn mower & farm tractor....they are a lot more heavy duty than a normal automotive V belt & they come in almost any size you can think of...The price is very reasonable too!! 8) 8)

Later,

Doug

just a dumb question but, cant you install a electric motor for the alternator/waterpump/power steering? or is that kinda much... that would only be crank to paxton alloying faster rev's ?
