Hey, I have been looking to get a K&N filter in my car, BUT, I cant ever find one to fit. I am seriously thinking about doing the Aussie head change on my 200, but if I dont, what K&N works on the stock air cleaner assembly?? Or do I have to get another one?? Thanx for the help guys, this is a very helpful place for my buildup.

I've been using the Fram air filter for awhile since I couldn't find a K&N filter to work from my local auto parts stores. I'm looking for a big chrome air cleaner to fit on my Autolite 1100. But really, what's the differnece between a Fram air cleaner and K&N ?

NPD carries the K & N. Part #9601-3N for 65-66 $38.50 They also list one for the 67-69 for $42.50. Since the 65-69 use's basically the same size housing I do not know what the difference is.

I do have a used one that I just oiled recently for sale. $20 including shipping. If anyone wants one that will fit the 1100 stock cleaner.

The real advantage of the K & N is it is reusable. It is also suppose to breather better than the stock paper elements.

I've tried twice to get a NPD catalog from their website and I still haven't received one and its now been 4 months. I guess they don't like my VIN.

Yeah, I believe I have a Fram as well, but I would like to get a good K&N, sposed to flow better and all that. Money is tight concidering I just bought dual headers and need to get pipes and 40 series Flows, so i will prolly just wait till I get the Aussie head and 2 barrel carb for the K&N. Thanx again!!!

My original cleaner was trash..so I threw away the top and cut the bottom to leave a flat area with 4 V spikes..then fitted a 10X2 filter in it and a chrome top and it looks and works great....very custom for $12 bucks..I can send a pic if you like...but I just dont know how to post one..

After my oil filter experiences with Fram, I generally avoid all the Allied Signal parts I can. Any company that makes filters that consistently fail in use doesn't get my money.

I can't remember where I saw it but I've actually seen a k&n filter specifically for ford six engines. Anyway, take the measurements of the stock paper filter, then look for a K&N filter of the same size. They have so many different sizes I'm sure you could find one.

barish,

if you are having problems with NPD, try emailing them. They have been having difficulty with their system.

Hey...Matt I am in Indy now...so I will send a few of the finished product...I ended up selling my Holley 10" so I put my first one the offbrand 9" back on...I can give yu the specs this weekend with more detailed pics...right now I am making new wire looms for my Accel wires.

Jammer,
Did you use a stock cleaner bottom from a 200? What did you use to cut it. Also, what was the part and where did you get it to make the top peice. I could make a k&N fit, but the cover wouldnt go all the way down and the screw to hold it wasnt long enough. I appreciate your help, and the part numbers and size of the cut you made would be soooo helpful!!!!
You guys continue to amaze me and have recindled my desire to keep the six and wow people with it!!!
Matt

I can send more pics to you this weekend...you can use either a 9x2 from AUTOZONE or the HOLLEY which is 10x2. Yes I used the bottom of the stock cleaner. I will send you pics and instructions as soon as I get back to STL>

Jammer, I'd like to see what you came up with. I was planning to buy a chrome 10" unit, cutting out the center, trimming a stock base to 10", then marrying the two bases. :?

Dont waste your money on a stock chrome unit. I used a standard unit...and added the top from a 10" Holley and also a no name 9" from Autozone..send me your em address and I will send you some pics. (My son has created a web site www.cardomain.com/id/66muscle I hope it works!)

i just picked me up a k&n air filter today at NPD for 39.50$...i really felt the improvement and the air flow is alot better...its great that im only 2 minutes away from the NPD!!! :D now i have to adjust the carb to accomodate the increased flow...its a great 40$ lifetime upgrade
