Linkage again (cable throttle)

Alright, I have called a local junkyard and asked about '78 Fairmonts. He said he did not have any, they were crushed, and they are getting scarce. Not what I wanted to hear. I have tried to call the other local junkyard but I have not been able to reach them. I will be going to another junkyard on Saturday to see if they have any '78 Fairmonts. This is the one I was at last week (I think I mentioned it on this forum) where I got a cable throttle from an F-150 but the linkage on my carburetor is different. It is not designed for a ball joint fitting. I want to swap the ball joint linkage from the old 5200 carburetor to the new carburetor. The problem is that I do not know how to remove the linkage. Can anyone help me out? The weather is so nice and I am seeing other classic cars on the road. I need to drive my Mustang!

Thank you,

Justin

Also, the pull from the F-150 cable throttle I got is not enough to fully engage both valves. I do not know what year the cable is though.

Hey Dude,
Allmost any year Fairmont or for that matter any cable throttle setup will work, they all will require cutting and pasteing to make them work, some more than others. "NONE" are a direct fit, all require massaging the linkage and pedal to make them work for your application. You might be better off buying a lokar linkage setup and installing it?

Don't mind me. Just watching this one.

I've been trying to come up with a throttle cable linkage for my duel Webers. I'm thinking this info. will help.

I am trying to avoid paying $35.00 for a cable if I can get one at the junkyard for a few dollars. I was not even charged for the F-150 cable I picked up! Does everyone else that has done the 2bbl upgrade have a ball joint throttle lever? Am I the only one with this funky throttle lever?

I can bolt a ball joint to the throttle lever but it is facing towards the firewall at an awkward angle. It might work if I can find a cable throttle with a longer pull. The F-150 cable's pull is much to short.

Don't mean to hijack this post TheDude but Slade, can you verify this part number for the vee-eight throttle rod? C5ZZ-9A702-D

Laugh if you want, but I used a pedal and cable from a '91 Grand Marquis. It was really and easy install. I think I only had to make two holes in the firewall. The cable had the bracket that I simply bolted to the firewall. The pedal was the right angle and doesn't look out of place.

...........Cheers, Alex

Dude, my 5200 from Stovebolt came with a different linkage than yours did. I'll snap a pic and post it when I get home. Although, I think mine is going to be harder took a cable mount to.
