LOG

Good Morning-I am new to the inline ford 6 game... I need a lot of advice regarding intake -carb and distributor and which works best with what. BUT my first question is what does LOG stand for... I assume it has to do with the bore size on the intake, but can someone clarify

Log is part of the cylinder head.
If you need a special recurved distributor i can help you. wsa111 Bill

Welcome EddieSystematic! . . "Log" is a nickname for the design of the intake manifolds, as they are long and skinny like a log. When you are ready to post specifics, use whichever of these spots applies to your engine. :)

As others have said, the term "log" generally refers to a single plane intake manifold having one intake opening (usually in the middle of the manifold) where the carb is bolted on. Through the carb bolted onto the intake manifild, fuel from the carburetor enters the intake through this one opening (with no separation) and feeds all 6 cylinders on our inline 6. In Ford small sixes, the log is it is round (later, more hex shaped), thus resembling a log.

More specifically, on Ford small sixes, the log manifold customarily refers to the intergral intake manifold that was cast by Ford as a single piece with the cylinder head. The intake is "integral" to the cylinder head, as opposed to being bolted on - as is the case with most other engines.

Thank You everyone for the info on the terminology, I will post my specific questions in the correct forum... And wsa111 bill I have a load omatic and will more than likely contact you for a distributor, I am being told that the loa is not compatible with the carter carb that is on there. I just want to do a little homework before i do anything. This is a project car for my buddy's son, I just want to get some power out of this thing and make it reliable for the kid . Thank you again everyone

Eddie, i have this DS11.

Howdy! Yes, take your time and do some research before you purchase parts. Plans are subject to change, and you don't want to be pressured into buying something that may not be what you wind up wanting. Good luck with your project!
