I have a 66 Bronco with a 170 that is running pretty good - over all I have no complaints with it's performance - just a few oil leaks and a little sluggish going up steep inclines. I have been looking for a 200 to swap in for some added HP. I have never done much too complicated to an engine (replaced an intake on a 302 once and to go from 2- 4 bbl) thats about as far as I have gone. So an engine swap and possible rebuild will be a learning experience for me. I am going to look at a 200 (Originally out of a 66 falcon) that is for sale supposedly rebuilt a few years ago and put in a mustang ran for a few thoulsand miles then took out for a larger engine. The current owner bought it for his mustang, but also decided to go bigger so it has sat in is garage for about a year.

When I look at it, any pointers on what to look at specifically? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

First pointer is that everything about the potential purchase is hearsay. I'd suggest little above core charge would be a good price to pay. There's a lot of indifferent rebuilds about the place; some really don't wear well.

Other than that - you'll find a seven main, double-drilled block to be the best bet if you are looking for the larger size clutch and flywheel. It depends when the block was made in '66, as to whether it's this version or not.

Regards, Adam.

get the head and block casting numbers from the seller and come back here with them, we can then tell you much more about the engine.

even in running condition, these engines are only worth a couple hundred bucks, with a working manual trans and clutch and everthing maybe a few hundred in stock condition (very good stock condition at that).

get the codes and come back and we can break it down for you.

Where are you located? I got a freshly rebuilt 200 in houston, tx. In the bag from the machine shop and got the receipt around here somewhere. I think it was bored .030 over. Head was rebuilt too.
