Hey guys I have a 65 200 and I want to try to modify it to run the Rochester 2GC for a little more power. I have three or four of them but they're all the large base. What is a good source for the small base 2Gc? I want to search Ebay to try to find one but I don't know what applications use them I've been Googling and I just keep running in a circle.

I just finished what you are describing; adapting a 2G clone to a 200.

I'm not sure what a "small base" 2G is exactly. I have heard that they are the center carbs from vintage GM Tri Power setups from the late 50s or early 60s. If this is the case, the "small base" carbs will be rare, likely worn out, and expensive.

What I used was a small butterfly Mercarb from a 3.0L Mercruiser. It has the same size base (large) as the other 2Gs I have on the shelf. I was able to make an adapter to connect the Mercarb to the large log head on my van's 200. I think it's an excellent choice and with a bit of work runs great!

Just to clarify, the Mercarbs are slightly different from a Rochester 2G; jets are different, only one idle mixture screw, no fast idle cam, electric choke, no ported vacuum, but look very similar. You could check out my "Which Cylinder Head?" for details.

Yours is a "large base".

They are difficult to find. Every new knock-off I've seen is large base. I don't know the full range of their application, but I do know they were used extensively if not exclusively on mid-60's Buicks with the 300 engine, and other engines of similar era and displacement. Also, and this may be a better lead- my '71 C10 had a small base 2G on a 307 small block. It's safe to say that all small displacement Chevy's used them from the early 60's on. 283, 307, and base-model 350's. Possibly not the 327 it was more of a performance application but IDK. Millions were produced, this carb moved most GM V8 vehicles for over a decade.

If this is actually in stock, this is what I'd get-
